I was put on Metoprolol  20 years ago for high blood pressure and pvc's. It has worked very well and I have no side effects that I know of. We all are different of course and with that in mind I had tried a couple of other beta blockers that I stopped due to side effects. Try the Metoprolol it might be the one for you.

Thanks for your reply helps to know I may not have the awful side effects of prev bête blocker hopefully my consultant will agree to give me second ablation when I see him middle of May and in time I will be off them all together . Take Care

Hi sounds like Bisoprolol may be OK for you just made me very tired with fog brain that's not to say it will effect you the same , good luck .

I was unable to take any beta blocker but I am able after trying had success with Metoprolol I take 25mg three times a day.  This is a short acting drug is why you take it three times as opposed to once, maybe this is why I can get along with it.  I think I must have tried all the other at one time or another and told the cardiologist it would have to be one with the least side effects and it took me four days for the giddiness to wear off and I am now happily settled on it.

Are you taking Metroprolol for blood preassure reduction or for helping to stop AF. I do not have higher than normal blood preassure and bisoprolol use to help to stop AF.what side effect from it?

Metoprolol was added for the AF but it does also have bp properties as well. The best thing I have been given for rate control of my AF and it is very successful is 125mcg of Digoxin.   My irregular hb still shows up on my bp monitor but other than that I don't feel it. A better blocker makes the heart fill more slowly so that it is stronger when it beats.  I feel almost normal with Metoprolol and Digoxin.
