Metoprolol

Hi everyone. I am prescribed Metoprolol 50mg twice a day however I am experiencing difficulty in obtaining these. The local chemist has told me to go back to doctor and get a replacement but my gp says there isn't one suitable for me and has given me another prescription tto shop around. However all local pharmacies do not have any. I wondered if anyone on this forum was experiencing this problem.

Wendy, The company Actavis, now known as Accord, a factory in Barnstaple, Devon, make Metoprolol. Give them a call on 01271 385200. I always do it when there's a problem getting tablets and they tell me what suppliers in my area have them in stock, give me the stock number and I pass this on to my pharmacy and the problem is solved. Of course they may also tell you if there is a shortage, but I've never been told that yet.

Thank you Jean. I have managed to get some from a large Boots in the nearest town. They did say however that there is a problem obtaining them and I may have to have liquid form in the future. I will give the company Actavis a ring and ask their advice. I very much appreciate your input as I am new here.

Happy Jo, I've not heard of Metoprolol tartrate in a 25mg pill form, though I think the succinate is. What make is the one that you use? It sounds like someone has noticed there's a market for it. I take 1 x 12.5mg twice daily and it would be so much easier for me to just half a 25mg pill, instead of quartering a 50mg.

Yes, it drives me potty trying to quarter a 50mg as they all end up different sizes. I use a pill cutter too. How do you look up the reviewer scores please?

I take 12.5mg metoprolol tartrate twice daily, and have it in tablets of 12.5mg. When I took the prescription to Boots they had never heard of it. But they managed to get it made up for me, although it did take a couple of weeks to arrive at the pharmacy.

Hi Lola, Boots seem to be more helpful than my local Lloyds pharmacy and will use them in the future.

Wendy when I recently was on this medication, I obtained through Walgreens and with my insurance, it was free when I did the mail order of 3 months at a time. Delivered to my home. Good Luck.

Hi, I've been told that Metaprolol is not available, and my GP has changed my script to bisoprolol. Can't say I'm happy about this as have been very stable, but from what I read here it may be that I can get it elsewhere so thanks folks. Glad I checked 'tinternet'.
