Just a quick question.

Will I have to stop taking Warfarin prior to my ablation end of this month?

Hi Bridget,

You should stay on the warfarin after the ablation, I am still on it with an INR in the range of 2/3. I hope to be off it after 12 wks following my ablation (which was on the 16th Jan) I believe there is an increased risk of clotting following ablation that's why thin blood is needed. Hope that helps.

Thanks Paul. Also wondered if I have to have heparin injections pre ablation as some sites say this happens. If so not looking forward to giving myself those 😯

Hi Bridget, many EPs want you to stop warfarin five days before and inject clexane (heparin) up to the date.Once you have steeled yourself to do the first one it isn't an issue.

I was told to continue with the warfarin like Jo. Different EPs ask for different things.

I carried on with warfarin. It's important it's in range (2-3) on the day so you might want to test more leading up to the day.

It's very important you do continue with warfarin - otherwise the ablation can produce lots of microemboli which can lodge in the brain - see a post I made yesterday.

Continued right through for all of mine. Last one, no bruising!

I stayed on and had to go for weekly inr tests for 4 weeks prior to the ablation. For 5 months after had lots of fluttering/odd beats etc but then all settled down an now all fine, feel great for last 12 months. May need another but we shall see. I came off meds on day after ablation - except warfarin. Try not to worry ass is well worth it so best luck
