Hi Everyone, advice please, I was admitted to A&E early June with persistent AF, I waited 5 weeks to have Cardioversion which I am pleased to say it was successful and I felt so good afterwards, one doesn't realise how debilitating AF is until your out of it.Sadly it only lasted 9 weeks and the I went straight into persistent AF again, this is so disappointing. I saw my Dr last Monday and he sent an urgent referral for me to see Cardiology. I have now received a letter this morning to ring referral services for a date to have a Cardiology Assessment, I'm not sure what to expect, has any member had an Assessment before and what am I to expect, thanks for reading....
Cardiology Assessment....: Hi Everyone... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Cardiology Assessment....
Are you taking tablets at all?
Sorry I forgot to mention medication, 20 mg Rivaroxaban, 5 mg nebivolol and 125 mg Digoxin
You did well lasting 9 weeks. I only managed 24 hours when I had my cardioversion. The important things gained are that you can be returned to NSR and that you feel better in NSR. This means that the basic criteria for an ablation have been satisfied. However there are other criteria and tests that will have to be done before it is a yes.
I would definitely get a referral straight to an EP and not to a general cardiologist. Look at the AFA's website for EPs. A cardiology assessment can cover various tests. Initially I had an echocardiogram. My EP did not do any other tests as I was in persistent AF and then did the cardioversion a few weeks later. When I saw him after that he said that the only realistic option was an ablation but I had to go away and think about it. I decided yes.
Thank you both for your replies, can't wait to have my treatment and get back on track again....
My assessment consisted of ECG, echocardiogram, treadmill test and angiogram - a bit over the top! Depends on other symptoms I think. I also think (but just my opinion) that EP expects Cardiologist to check the plumbing before work on the electrics.
Thanks for your reply Buffafly, I have just phoned referrals and I have an appointment for my Cardiology Assessment next Monday....
