Hypnotherapy session.

Some may remember me posting that I was going to try hypnotherapy to keep me calm in lead up to my pending ablation. Well, today was my first session. I had to get a train and two taxis as my husband was ill so couldn't take me and I don't drive. Also when I got there I was in A.F. and feeling stressed and cynical so not the best start I thought.

The lady talked me through the process , asked me lots of questions about my life and what I hoped to get out of the session. I found myself being unbelievably honest about myself.

After about 45 minutes I had to lie on the bed with some kind of monitors on my fingers. I just kept thinking that if one of them was taking my pulse she would have something to say but no.

Then calming music and she started to talk. At first I felt really tense and my mind was all over the place but then I gradually became very calm and focused on her voice. All my body felt heavy yet as if it didn't belong to me. When she bought me back to reality I felt as though I had had a really good sleep. I now have two c.d.s to play at home and another appointment next week. When I got off the bed I realised my A.F. had stopped.

I must admit that I didn't expect great things but now I am optimistic that this could help get through the next couple of weeks in one piece. X

Dear dediottie, your hypnotherapy session sounds as though it was really beneficial, hope the future sessions go well and help you to keep calm in the lead up to treatment. It's really good to hear about positive experiences and way people cope with living with AF, it helps me to think about alternative ways of dealing with my episodes of increased anxiety when I am not feeling so well. Take care.

How interesting, dedeottie. It certainly sounds as if it will be helpful to you. Keep us posted!

I'd keep busy, if I were you, and have a slight spring clean so that you can ignore things like the kitchen floor for a week or two after your ablation. A few good meals in the freezer too.

Dedeottie - so pleased to hear a fellow AFibber has already found benefit from Hypnotherapy - I've had a course of treatments and it's helped me enormously to deal with my biggest trigger anxiety - it has also improved my day to day attitude to life and helped improve sleep quality - I also found the CD my hypnotherapist gave me very beneficial - good luck with the rest of the sessions - Cathy

Thanks for posting this description, sounds excellent. Often wondered how it worked.

Wow, that is interesting! And you actually came out of AF by the end of the session? I'm thinking that perhaps hypnotherapy would be very useful for those of us who are triggered by anxiety. I will look into it - thank you...

Hi. Liz

I was surprised at the effect just one session had on me and no one could be more cynical than me. I will keep you posted. X

It sounds good. I had a session a few years ago from a trained hypnotherapy friend and I felt better for it for a long time. Unfortunately she has now moved to Switzerland so much too far to travel. I had a session Nov 13 with someone my GP suggested and it didnt work at all. I think you need a practitioner who you can connect with to get the best outcome.

So pleased you feel better for it.
