High blood pressure

My bp has been in 180's for 24 hours whilst resting in bed. Bottom figure in 80's and pulse in 60's. Do l go to GP or stick it out?

I think it depends on what else is going on with you. If you are stressed or feeling unwell then your BP will go up.

Depends on your symptoms but check up may be in order....

If you are like me, a BP reading like that is likely to lead to a degree of anxiety the next time it's measured and the likelihood that it will be the same or higher. One of the reasons I do not have a blood pressure monitor at home is that I found it counter productive because I'd be testing my BP too often with all too predictable results - I've heard many other people say steer clear of BP monitors for this reason.

Everyone is different though and what's applies to me does not to many others who find a BP monitor an essential tool in trying to manage their health - if you are one of those, then my advice is to try to relax, leave any monitoring for twenty four hours (not easy I know) and then make an appointment to see your GP if the reading is still the same, or higher, when you next measure it.

Joholl,

if you probably need to see your GP, particuarly if the readings 180 and youre inactive, what must the reading be like when moving around I wonder

I agree with all the other replies and am just wondering why you have been resting in bed for 24 hours. Are you ill in some way?

Not what you're looking for?
