Bountiful harvest

OK so so far I've made five apple pies but none last long enough to go in the freezer so today I made six pounds of plum jam instead. Small plum tree in the orchard so that is it this year but loads more apples. Nothing to do with Af--just feeling smug. After all what are AGAs for if not jam making and apple pies.

Stay well all

Bob

I love Apple pie Bob with a nice dollop of cream, Mmmmm. We have apple trees, but never made apple pie with them. We eat plenty of them and a guy down the street makes Apple wine and Cider, so I give him most of the apples. He drops the odd bottle in now and again, but boy is that stuff strong, I think it could power an F1 car! Good job alcohol isn't a trigger for me :)

I cheat and use Tesco Just roll pastry. 3 lbs apples 2 oz caster sugar. peel core and chop the apples Small spoon of water and simmer the apples for ten mins till soft. Roll pastry to fit large pie dish, top and bottom, scoop apples into dish. fit top and pinch round. Prick a few holes. Use any spare pastry to make some leaf shapes to decorate the pie and bak 20 ins in hot oven Simples as the meerkat says.

So will you be bringing pie samples to the patients day, if so put me down for a slice. No end to your talents.

Dee.

Completely agree with Meadfoot, Patients day, lots of apple pie for lunch, sounds wonderful Bob.

Can you put a clove or two in my slice?

It wouldn't travel I'm afraid. Don't use cloves or cinamon.

The last lot I made myself was like armour plate!

You just havent got a light enough touch Bob. Probably thought you were still in your workshop. Sandra

Just about to start with apple pies….our varieties are a bit late. Planted an apricot tree 2 years ago, nothing this year but looking forward to next year if no frost issues and the moles don't eat all the roots!

When my troubles make themselves felt, I find light gardening and tending fruit and veg a real salve. Apple pie recipe sounds tempting, but my appetite and desire to cook or bake is poor at the moment. On the last day of a 10 day course of antibiotic for chest infection, which reared its ugly head when on holiday in S France; maybe I'll pick up once that's out of my system. Narbonne A&E fantastic; staff welcoming, empathetic, informative, prompt, thorough....not that I'd recommend going there unnecessarily! Now, how soon can I pluck my many cox apples - first harvest on my tree planted 2 years ago?

Gee, thanks for the apple pie craving now, Bob! I make a pretty mean apple pie too, though making the crust is my favorite thing! I use cinnamon and a bit of nutmeg in mine. If there was going to be homemade pie at patient day I would have to consider booking a flight ;-)

Mmmmm plum jam and apple pie! Very jealous of the plums because the birds ate our damsons before I could get to them! I've got strips of tin foil wrapped above the pears to try to give them a fighting chance - the apples are looking wonderful though. Perhaps I could do a little light picking this weekend, now you've given me the idea... I use cinnamon in my apple pies too Grandma! And of course we will also be picking some blackberries, for gorgeous blackberry jam. :)

Ah, the smell of plum jam and apple pie in the making . . . drool. I too find a little berry tending is good for keeping AF where it belongs! Unfortunately this year I unknowingly fed hundreds of sawfly caterpillars on my gooseberry bushes but managed to make enough jam with what I salvaged from the little pests.

You are advanced in Devon, Bob. Here, 55 degrees north, 600 feet up it's like Autumn and the blackberries are still tight and green!
