Good morning all, where is the best place to purchase the Alivecor please? I will be using it with iPad mini as my phone is only a series 3 iPhone. Also, what information does it feedback to be so popular?

Thanks

I bought mine from amazon but it's for my iphone 5.

Is there any way to upgrade your phone at all? Even to a 4?

The reason I say that is because if you have it on your phone you can carry it with you everywhere.

There seems to be a universal Alivecor now which says it fits the iphone 4-4s and 5.

I don't know anything about one to fit your iPad, sorry.

It will show you your heart rate, the qrs, T & P waves. It will also show premature atrial contractions( extra beats) and prem ventricular contractions amongst others. There is also a facility to send a reading straight off for analysis by a professional costing £5. I've done that twice and a result comes back within a day.. You can save all/any of your readings, send straight to an email address and print them out if you want.

If you buy one it will help you to understand the readings by lookingup/googling etc, basic ECCs and what each wave represents.

Don't be put off by my last sentence though, you don't have to do that, only if you wish to go into more depth.

Look see if there is a link on the AFA website as I think they gave a discount if you used that link but check out the price on Amzazon as they usually list the best prices. I bought mine about 1year ago so things may have changed.

The main information that is important to AFibbers is whether or not you are in NSR or AF. The recordings are automatically saved in your account so you can recall them at any time, you can email them directly to your doctor or print them out. If you have difficulty in getting a diagnosis it is a Godsend and if like me you feel reassured that you can monitor yourself, likewise. My doctors LOVEd them and I could hardly get it back out of their hands when I showed them, but not every doctor is so open minded. I was also lucky in that I seemed to be able to get almost perfect readings instantly whereas others had difficulty. There are some excellent posts about how to get good readings on these posts and on the app.

There are some people who do not feel reassured by that information and find their anxiety increases so if you can, try before you buy and think about whether or not you would find it helpful or not.

Re:- IPad - you don't fit it - you hold it near the microphone end of the IPad. It has to be quite near. You can see when you have a good signal connection as it shows 3 green bars, bit like your ooh does when you have a good signal.

For ooh read phone!

You don't need to fit the AliveCor to your phone, it should work fine just close by. I never fit mine and in any case, it doesn't fit that well to my iPhone 5c and tends to pop off. You do need to check whether there's an app for your phone though.

Researching there website It seems to be more for the new series iPhone ( unfortunately I don't have an option to upgrade). Has any body used Qardio yet?

Hi Koll, just read your message. So it's fine to use independently then, I will check App Store to see if there is an app for iPad thanks

poppyseed - I bought mine from Amazon via AFA's June discount. I use it with my iPad Air and the app I downloaded seemed to be the general one available, not specific to the iPad. I've been able to get good readings (3 bars showing) with my hands and with left knee and right hand. As long as the device is near the microphone, it works fine if you keep fairly still.

Hi, just looked at the alivecor website, it gives a list of compatible devices - unfortunately my Nexus is not one of them. Also you can get a universal attachment pad.

Hi poppyseed,

I got my Alivecore last October. The only app for ipad then was the veterinary one. I have an ipad4 (well it's my wife's actually) and just downloaded the iphone app to it. It works well enough and the ECG is obviously much bigger than on the phone and easier to follow.

Cyril.

I just noticed the Veterinary one, so will this work for us humans too?

My sheepdog would be interesting. Guess her heart rate is about 600+ ! Wonder how you use it?

PS. At the Patients Day one EP said that AF was a size thing. He said all Whales have AF but no mice have it (I may have used the wrong animals but that's the gist of it). Horses get AF, but would guess dogs don't, or maybe just very big dogs????

Just a word of caution before spending quite a lot of money. Not everybody gets good readings from the device. I have had one for a while now and seldom use it because a) I know if I'm in NSR or not and b) most of my readings look more like a magnitude 7 earth quake than an ecg. I really struggle to get a clean trace even with the enhanced filter switched on and that doesn't just apply to my own device but also one of theirs at a recent event I attended. Since they work with ultrasonics maybe my body is talking to dogs when I don't know about it but for what ever reason it just doesn't suite me.lol

Bob

PS my GP had similar problems when she tried it but a medical student present for the day did get a fairly good trace.

Are ther other devices that work for you?

The Cardiocity Rhythm Pad (not available for public consumption)_ which I used during Heart Rhythm Week gave me a decent reading about 90% of the time but threw up spurious readings on occasions. Maybe I have too much static in me. Too highly charged or something. It worked for a lot of other people.

To be honest, unless you are trying to capture events to prove the existence of AF I don't see the point as it merely increases anxiety. Surely people know if they are in NSR or not? Personal opinion only of course.

Bob

I have my diagnosis already, I was just worried in case there was any other problems I needed to prove. Looking at my full thread ( and yes I have been known to give people terrible electric shocks, so I know too I have plenty of static in me) of discussion and also taking into consideration I am hard up, on balance I am not going to purchase Alivecor . Thanks all for the discussion x :)
