Have now got a pacemaker. Trouble is one lead moved after 4hours so it had to be reinstated.

It was a really frightening sensation as when the lead moved it caused my stomach to spasm in time with heart beat. Pacemaker was then turned off and I was back on operating table having the lead removed and another put in. Apart from a lot of bruising and being very, very careful not to move my left shoulder too vigorously, I am fine. The pacemaker has been set at 60bpm so watch this space as to whether I will need an ablation as well.

Stay heart calm all of you.

Di

What an unnerving experience. Pleased it is behind you now. I have heard many good things about pacemakers. Rest and recuperate until you get back on track and your body gets used to it. You will soon be better than you were before having it fitted.

All the best

Dee.

Hi Di Being set at 60bpm you will notice if you try and do to much after 3 months or so they will probably alter it to 70,I,m going for my second checkup next Wednesday and i,m hoping they will alter mine from 70bpm if every things ok.Well done with the op and i,m sorry you had to go through that but i,m sure everything will be ok now.. argzxoni

I can imagine what you went through when the lead moved it certainly sounds scary! I'd have been terrified!

Like Dee I've heard a lot of good reports about pacemakers.. Glad you are sorted now and hope you are soon fit again.

Thank you Dee, argzxoni61 and jeanjeanie50, I am sure once it has settled down, I will be fine.

One thing with pacemakers, apparently I will not be able to use my induction hob to cook our meals! Have you heard of this? I have done some research but there are conflicting reports.

Yes, I was told the same thing after my pacemaker was fitted last October. We went out and bought a new hob but I hate it, it's nothing like cooking with the induction hob. In December I had an ablation and I was just beginning to think could we swop them back again having been af free for four months when on Mother's Day my af came back big time, I am now back on meds and going in for my 2nd ablation on 12 May, so hoping that this one works.

My pacemaker is also set at 60, but my pacemaker does not pace my heart all of the time, it will not let my heart go below 60 bpm as when I come out of af back to nsr my heart would pause itself for 13 seconds before deciding to continue on, not very nice at all, so glad I have a pacemaker it really does make me feel very safe. Hope yours becomes your best friend as well.

Good afternoon everyone and what a lovely one it is. I wonder if it is possible to feel the pacemaker kick in when needed? I get this hard pulse in my diaphragm area for maybe 30 seconds. Or am I being paranoid because of having a lead move in hospital? I am afraid to do too much in case it happens again. I am sleeping half sitting up which is really painful because of my bone problems so can I risk sleeping on my right side?

Sorry to be a nuisance but I do not want to do anything wrong.
