Getting an ablation while having a pacemaker.

68 year old male had two ablation didn’t work and one ablation for a flutter didn’t work. Went on Tykosyn really good for four years. Then starting to get this in toxic level so we discontinued. Had a pacemaker put in because I had bad episode of heart failure probably due to coven or could’ve been actually due to the Tykosyn we don’t know. I was just wondering can you get an ablation with three leads in your heart from a pacemaker?

I think you need to ask your EP that but I can see no objections since the leads are not actually inside your heart.

That said, since none of your ablations have worked maybe the next step is AV node ablation if your QOL (quality of life) is still poor.

“ since the leads are not actually inside your heart”

Where do you think they are BobD ?

On the outside. They are attached subcutaneously.

I have a 2 lead pacemaker and had a 3rd ablation 2 weeks ago.

My EP discussed this with me and said he had carried out ablations on patients after a pacemaker had been fitted. So choosing a pacemaker did not close the door on ablation as an option.

Just to clarify here, both internal and external attachment of pace maker leads is done and also ICD implants which are more frequently done subcutaneously.

I also had two ablations that failed and am on Tikosyn for the AFlutter that they couldn’t fix. Yet anyway. Been on Tikosyn for about 2 years. All good so far. Am curious about your toxic level. How did you know it was toxic? Blood work? Symptoms? I would be very interested in your experience. (I also may need a pacemaker in the future and my EP told me that people with pacemakers can still have ablations. )

Hey violet I was in for a hernia operation they did my blood work and EKG and my QTC was over 500 that was when they decided to take me off Tykosyn.I got this over the Internet

“Corrected QT Interval (QTc) Corrects the QT interval for heart rate extremes. Note: uses Bazett's formula, which is the most widely used, but has been shown to overestimate prolonged QT. Patients with syncope.” I have no clue what you’re talking about but I was over 500 and that is supposed to be not safe so they took off Tikyson..

Yes, you can,my husband has3 lead ICD pacemaker placed, he has cardiomyopathy. It did not work, his heart was going into a fib so he had 2 ablations in the last 2 years. His heart is again in a fib and he is having cardioversion tomorrow.
