I cant seem to get an answer as to should I be hsving it or not...obviously there is a chsnce of surgery so I understand that I might need to be off it, but...I have just asked about it and found that INR was 3 yestetday and 3.9 today, how does that happen when I am on intravenous anti biotics (2 different ones) and loads of pain killers...im anxious about the warfarin and my heart is going loopy on and off, which I know is probably due to being wound up, this hospital (south hampshire area) has not got the best reputation!

sorry about spelling, doing this on my phone!

Hello, Sorry to hear you are in hospital, in 2012 I got admitted with a blocked small intestine due to severe inflammation due to diverticulitis in my sigmoid colon that I never knew I had so I sympathise with you being on intravenous antibiotics I was in hospital for a week on them, I was then discharged with more oral antibiotics, I can say thankfully that since then I have not had any problems but when I am stressed it does tend to send my guts into overdrive, when that happens I tend to eat very little to let things calm down. I think I inherited from my Gt Grandmother's sister, pays to research your family history sometimes. At that time I did not know I had PAF but I am still not on warfarin, had a PAF attack this evening you don't need the stress it does not help either condition. Hope you feel better soon.

you get yourself off to the surgery and demand warfarin, sounds like you should definately be on it, I had to push but got there in the end. good luck xx

Hi Biggran

I feel for you, I went into hospital in March 2012 with terrific pains in my abdomen. My GP had already told me he thought it was diverticulitis. The problem was that I had an infection of the colon which affected my heart and my BPM was close to 300. That was when I was diagnosed with AF and Flutter.

I spent a week in there on antibiotics and was started on bisoprolol and digoxin, none of which worked and in fact the bisoprolol brought on very bad asthma. They changed my meds regularly looking for one that might work, nothing did and so I had my first ablation eventually. I've been on warfarin since. I'd imagine they wouldn't want you to take it if your INR is 3 or above, I know they stopped mine before I could have my op.

I've since had another ablation but it seems every time I get a slight infection my heart goes bonkers!!

I wish you all the best and I hope you feel better soon, it's not nice being in hospital. X

probably home tomorrow, feel like I am in a nightmare and cant wake up. why are some doctors so rude, just because they are maybe cleaverer than most of us doesnt give them the right to act like they do, they are human after all not gods!

I was about to have my pacemaker inserted on the14th Feb it has been postponed until the 28th Feb because my INR was 4 on the advice of my consultant Cardiologist. She would only carry out the proceedure if my INR was between 2-2.5 as there would have been too much bleeding. Your Warfarin would have been stopped for similar reasons. Tagstan

Each time I have stopped my warfarin I have been started on heparin, not straight away but immediately post op. When I had my pacemaker inserted I had to wait as my INR was too high but they did it when it was 2,something.
