Since our family tragedy 3 weeks ago I have been eating junk food and drinking too much wine. Surprised today to find that blood test showed INR to be ideal reading (2.3) !!!

Well Chris junk food has no vit k in it so why would it change anything. The wine issue is probably over stated as well.

That's the worst part of trying to eat healthy you have all the things that upset warfarin. Surely you can not drink to much wine ;)

You are right , I could not try a proper diet due to vitamin k

Eating a lot of veg or drinking herbal tea will change INR dramatically

If you flip it on its head a bit if you eat a stable diet then you should get the tablet dose that suits you, then you just carry on. Its only when that diet is changed it can mess it up again.

wine and sweet food will trigger AF well it does mine!!

G'day Chris-S,

I've been on the Warfarin stuff since Jan 2010 and despite very rigorous training covering the nature of warfarin, vita K and diet - before leaving hospital - the only two concessions I've made to Warfarin has been nil cranberry products and I've cut back on booze (but not by much !). I continue to eat all the green stuff I have always eaten. Junk food too, i.e. Maccas, KFC etc no problems at all. My diet is and has always been constant and consistent. Even when I followed the FODMAPS diet to deal with digestive issues this had no bearing on my Warfarin at all. INR has always fallen in the range 2.1 to 2.6. Occasionally it dips down to about 1.6 and occasionally up to 3.1 but this is dealt with by minor adjustments to the Warfarin dose rather than adjustments to my diet.

Good luck

Aussie John

Great! Just opened a bottle of claret and started sizzling a big fat burger, deep frying the chips and opening the brown sauce. Cheers!

Thanks for the chuckle - imagining an amazing AFers barbie!
