Swollen ankles.

My doctor has prescribed Furosemide 40 mg for my swollen ankles, he says he doesn`t know what the cause is but it could be a number of things. they only swell in the daytime and each morning when I awake they are back to normal.

Can any one give me any advice on this? it would be much appreciated.

This happens to me too. I have been taking Furosemide for a while but does not stop it happening. I have Angina and AF but they tell me now the swelling is not related to either. I will wait to see if anyone has any ideas with interest. Good luck

My feet have been really swollen since I started taking Diltiazem (Adizem ZL capsules). The medication has definitely helped the breathlessness but even taking water tablets does not get rid of my fat feet and ankles.

Reading the leaflet in the box it states that one in ten people get swollen ankles/feet taking this medication. My question is please - is it a case of being able to breathe easier but suffer the discomfort of the stiff swollen feet, or is there a solution to the swelling. They are still a bit swollen first thing in the morning.

It could be the start of Rt hand side heart failure -don't get too alarmed I was diagnosed with this 5 years ago and it hasn't go any worse. It's important though that you drink plenty to give the Furosemide something to work on and also to protect the kidneys.Water tablets can deplete the body of potassium so try and eat a banana each day. If you pee more then they are working well. When relaxing raise your feet so that your ankles are higher than your groin area, this will help drain the ankles back. Also don't stand for long periods if possible.

Ciao 4 now

Yes I get it too. I believe most of it is from lack of circulation when I'm in AF . The same up during the day and down in the morning. All good when in hospital laying down. Brian
