My new GP was very reassuring about it all and have an appointment for blood tests and a further chat in 2 weeks time so I'm feeling quite well looked after but am worried about being active on this med.Am going to request visit to electrophysiologist when I see him next.

Dedeottie,

Happy to hear they got you started on meds. Keep in mind that the Bisprolol is a beta block and not designed to stop the AF from happening. But it will slow the heart rate so that the attack is not as bad. I'm glad to that your requesting an appt with an EP. They should be able to get you on the proper meds which will help a lot. Don't get frustrated while trying out the meds. It's a hit and miss process. Some find the right one the first try and others may have to go through many before they find the one that works best for them.

Don't hesitate to call your GP if you start to feel odd. Beta blockers also slow the heart down when not in an attack so you may start feeling tired and then they can adjust the dosage.

Keep us up on how it's going.

Tim

Thanks for advice re not getting frustrated. How did you know that Im the kind of person that always wants a quick fix answer!! Guess this A.Fib is going to teach me a new way of thinking then. Will keep you posted. Glad to hear that your op is still keeping you A.Fib free.

Hi dedeottie,

I'm on bisoprolol, 5mg, and finding it good actually - I occasionally get a little light-headed but not so much as to put me off my stride. I was on it at a lower dose (1.25mg) for two years before my most recent attack, and at that level didn't notice any effects at all. I hope it helps and that you get to see an EP soon.

cant believe this. After all your reassurance and my nerves going I was just about to pop the first pill in my mouth when suddenly thought Id better read the leaflet inside the box. It said I should talk to my doctor I have first degree heart block which I know I have. Rang Doc who said not to take a tablet until I have seen a doc in the practise who also works on the cardiac ward at Cardiff hospital so now have an appointment to see him next Friday and am wondering what will happen. Looks like I will just have to go with the flow for now. Thanks to all for your help and hope I will soon be sorted. Feel a lot better now that I can talk on this forum.

I think that goes to prove how wise it is to read the leaflets, however small and annoying the print!
