Tragus Nerve Stimulation to Prevent AF
New one on me but always interested in ideas.
New to me too but this article gives some info:

Thanks for posting.
Not promising then. I would question the whole premise of wanting to stimulate vagus (or by proxy -Tragus) - surely it is improving vagal tone that would be of more benefit?
I will have to read it several times to really understand. But at least it is non- pharmaceutical and non-invasive.
I'm sure this idea has been mentioned here a while back. It would be good if they could do more thorough research on it.
Thanks for prompting this discussion, I think it is the future in some form. I would have thought the commercial returns are there for a company to sell a non-invasive product - I would gladly pay into 4 figures if it took that concern away.
I believe you are referring to the vagus nerve ... ? Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a respected cardiologist who seems to understand AF better than most, has numerous videos on the topic. Here's one to get you started: youtube.com/watch?v=yvJ7KNI...
The Tragus nerve is in the middle ear and is part of the ANS and a tributary if you like of the vagus nerve. Whilst I love Dr Gupta videos understanding the whole ANS and how it operates is quite complicated and it is the balance between sympathetic and parasympathetic which seems to me to be important in AF.
Hence the difference of why some people find exercise helps stop their AF whilst others find resting does.
The idea of stimulating Tragus nerve as a possible treatment was probably worth exploring but I see this more as a money making opportunity than a serious treatment.
Personal opinion of course! Best wishes.
I read a study probably a year or so ago. I think they used 20Hz. I tried it and did not have success. I think this is very experimental. My cardiologist has not heard of it.
My extensive experience with chiropractic treatments has proven to me nerves in the neck and back definitely play a large part but I cannot find any studies related to this. Check out some of my past posts if you are interested .
