Swollen Veins back of hands and wrists.

Can anyone advise me on this one please. Went to my GYM this morning as usual felt OK.Came home and prepared my usual Organic Oats Muesli the only difference being substituted sulphur free prunes in place of dried apricots started to feel strange within the hour with a feeling of heaviness in chest,Fingers, face and head been tingling all day but around 3 pm the veins in the back of my hands began to swell alarmingly and were very deep blue and are still swollen but not to the same degree. I showed them to a friend who insisted I must have injured them but of course I haven't. This is happening more often recently. Head still tingling. I have PAF the medication is Bisoprol,Asprin and Flecanide.Thank you,C

Hi Caromia

I don't suffer from this, but I suspect this is nothing to do with your breakfast, most likely a reaction to the Gym, did you do anything more than usual this morning?

Swollen veins can be due to lack of hydration so just drinking a lot of water can help.

If they have gone down now, I would just take care and if it happens again ring the doctor or NHS direct for advice.

Hope this helps

Ian

Ian thank you for that quick response.Just a normal work out before my work nothing any different but yes maybe dehydrated...Thank you for that.C

Hi Caromia,

Do you have a blood pressure monitor so you need to check your blood pressure? I would suggest you also need to get checked out at the surgery and see if they can give you an ECG. It's probably nothing to worry about but it's worth getting it checked out.

Let us know how you get on.

Mark

HI Mark.i do not have a BP monitor although I kept checking my pulse throughout and it seemed regular. This morning one hand is bruised if it happens today I shall go to A&E.A few weeks ago I wrote about eye problems I was having since following that I have recently had an examination at the Hospital with the eye specialist who believes my symptoms may be a result of the medication I am on. The follow up after taking advise from this site is I have an appointment with the Cardiologist in mid June the aim being to be referred to an EP of my choice I believe it was Bob and telephone conversation with the AFA who gave me recommendations that I have followed through.

At this stage i am so confused like many others what are symptoms of AF and what maybe contraindications of the medication. It is so reassuring to have people on here to chat to I am trying so hard to be proactive and carry on as "normal" but there seems to be one new symptom after another...Take care of yourself.c

Hi Caroma, if in doubt blame the medication is always my view. Beta blockers like bisopropol make people very lethargic and sap energy by lowering heart rate. If you were not on beta blocker and presented with a HR of 40 you would probably be referred for a pace maker as anything less than 60 is termed bradycardia (slow heart rate) whilst anything over 80 is tachycardia. Beta; blockers should not be given to asthmatics as they increase symptoms so can cause breathlessness. The above figures are for normal people not world class athletes which few of us are. They usually have slow resting heart rates as a result of their training.

Stay happy.

Hi Bob,I have to blame somebody/or something 'cause it a'int this kind heart of mine that is letting me down.Perhaps another dip in "Aphrodite's" pool is well over due and as a very old friend of mine says when you wake up in the morning clasp your hands together and if you don't knock on wood shout "Halleluiah".

Thank you for your continuing advise and now at least I can spell Atrial Fibullation...C
