Sotatol and Tinnitus

I have been on Sotatol for about 2 years. About 18 months ago started getting ringing in the ears and tingling in the extremities. Scans of the head and neck showed nothing abnormal. Went to the neurologist and got an EMG and again nothing out of the norm. So I'm leaning towards attributing this condition to the build up of sotatol in my system. Anyone else heard of these side effects? Thinking about having an ablation done.

There is a long thread about tinitus a day or so ago you might like to read. Use search box top right if you can't scroll back to it.

Have your B12 checked. Low levels can cause tingling, nerve pain, numbness etc. Look up symptoms and see if any fit. It is easy to resolve with a supplement but take folate also as they need each other. B12 needs to be high in the reference range, not somewhere near the bottom.

I had minor tinnitus while on Sotalol ( five years ) and began taking Taurine 1000mg for heart health . It can in some cases ( mine ) stop the tinnitus so I count myself lucky.

Still taking Taurine while on Flecainide ( three years plus ) and no re occurrence.

Me too ! But I thought it was another one of my "oh woh is me" symptoms. I also have very dry itchy skin. Another by product perhaps? I hope you find one of the replies useful. I will try taking some supplements in the hope they do not interact with my many medications.

I developed all of Sotalol's side effects. Visit to ER revealed nothing wrong, but ER Doctor suggested the drug might be causing dizzyness and fainting spells. Quit drug, had ablation and am recovering, but even that hasn't helped A/fib. Very discouraging.
