If you continued reading the Google results (at least mine) apparently it was/is used primarily in cosmetics to keep them from going bad. Perhaps deoderant? Other than that I can't think of anything I've ever used that might be considered a cosmetic.
I don't know what I should be trying to avoid specifically..

That's from Google's AI. I guess I could cut out deodorant, but who wants to hang out with a smelly 78 year old?
To find out if a product contains parabens, you can check the ingredients list on the back of the bottle. Parabens are usually easy to identify by their name, such as methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, or ethylparaben.
