Scouting the landscape ahead. Sulforaphane Supplements?

I realize that not too many stories considered supplements as an option to Western medical treatment. And I am going to be advised soon on the most conventional routes for my own PCA, but I’m still wondering about the activity of this Sulforaphane Supplement.

I know I found a thread here somewhere and then I did a little bit of research on the web. But would anybody really replace triplet therapy or radiation or something else to treat metastatic disease.?

If it has any effect, it's just a drop in the bucket compared to SOC.

Different kind of 'troops' - complementary therapies are coming in behind the main efforts, building up your reserves, rehabilitating the combined consequences of the disease and the extraneous damage done by the blitzkrieg of conventional therapies. But my feeling is that the speed needed to pushback the disease initially means you need the conventional therapies.

thanks TA and Toms. I figured if anyone would know of its use, I'd find them here.

Next step: SOC

Prostaphane / BROQ is arguably the best quality product. I also take SOC, Enzalutamide and Prostap injections.

Exercise is the best supplement, nothing else is close.

Ah, great point and consistent with my philosophy. Thanks for pointing this out.

IMO, the mind is the best supplement

Could you please be a little more vague?

If they use sulforophane to replace triplet therapy or radiation, they might live “longer,” than doing nothing, but there is no evidence that solforphane (that I’ve seen) that it will cure cancer. But IMHO there is some decent evidence that it may well slow progression.

I’m fascinated by “neutraceuticals,” and do hope more are studied. Here are some of my thoughts:

“The results of preclinical studies showed that sulforaphane provides cancer protection through the alteration of various epigenetic and non-epigenetic pathways. The therapeutic limitations of the use of sulforaphane in cancer are represented by the complete lack of knowledge of the potential anticancer effects at the cellular level and the effects on the immune system, the lack of translational studies to establish the effective doses in humans, and the interactions with conventional chemotherapy medication. However, considering everything together, the results of preclinical and clinical studies point to new therapeutic perspectives towards the possible development of new sulforaphane-based anticancer drugs.”

“In conclusion, the effectiveness of a biostable sulphoraphane for decreasing the rate of PSA progression in men with prostate cancer and biochemical recurrence after definitive radical prostatectomy appears promising. The compliance and tolerance were very good. Further studies are required to confirm the clinical importance of this finding.”

See Figure 2. SF group vs Placebo shows a significant reduction of PSA rise, when compared to the placebo group.

Note: “However, only sulforaphane precursors such as purified glucosinolates or broccoli sprouts and not sulforaphane are currently in intervention trials because sulforaphane is highly unstable in its free form (34).” [So, what forms are stable?]

That paragraph tends to remind me of a friend, telling me about his marriage relationship, “it’s complicated…”

Still, consider this: one cup of broccoli contains about 100 milligrams sulforaphane. This site claims that one cup of broccoli sprouts can contain 1200 milligrams.

See:

aegeandelight.com/growing-b....

Note: They are high in sulforaphane, and some seem to enjoy them, others not so much. If cooked beyond 158 Fahrenheit you destroy the myroisinase enzyme which is responsible for creating the sulforaphane you want. Like I said, “it’s complicated.” They do add crunch to salads and have a bit of bite, like radish.

Will it cure your cancer? No. Might it slow it down, sure. So too will ALA; NAC, Quercetin, Curcumin (90-95% curcumin w/ bioperine or pepper for absorption); ; Metformin; Celecoxib; Rosuvastatin, aspirin and others… But, nobody knows if any of the above might be additive, or multiplicative in their actions because, well, “it’s complicated.”

If you buy some off of Amazon beware of this "trick," that I see way too much of lately:

"Contains 2,000 mcg" (mcg = micrograms or 1/1000 of a milligram) My, that sounds like a lot, but in reality that's a mere 2 milligrams. If one cup of sprouts really contains 1200mg (milligrams) and that cup contains 100 grams of sprouts then 2 milligrams is 1/300th of that cup, so maybe a teaspoon?

Sprouts are easy to grow, try growing some.
