Is it safe to take Advil every 8 hours during chemo?

It’s almost a week since I started my first chemo cycle (Docetexel) on August 22. Side effects have subsided now except for bone and muscle pain. Advil gives superb relief. Is it ok to take it regularly? I don’t want to mess up bloodwork readings.

Benadryl seems mainly for allergies, will it help with the weakness and body pain?

I am not doctor and i should not talk about treatment here. All infusion that I do start with zofran 25mg and Benadryl IV than wait for 1 hour and do infusion. I think that reduce my all side effects immediate

Probably OK, but get permission. But aren't you taking prednisone or dexamethasone? It is a much stronger anti-inflammatory.

Yes they gave me Dexamethasone 2 dozes before and one after chemo. They also gave a Lapelga injection (some immunity booster) after 24 hours. First day went by without any effects, but after that extreme weakness set in along with body pain. Things got better after day-5 but some tiredness and body pain persists for which Advil was great.

I asked the oncology team and they also said it’s okay to take it but I must measure body temperature before taking it as it may mask a fever. Any fever above 100F I should go to ER.

If you are going to use a nsaid you may want to ask your mo for a Celebrex prescription. Advil blocks cox 1 and 2 enzymes. Celebrex only blocks cox 2. The cox 1 enzyme is the enzyme that protects the gastric tract. The Cox 2 causes inflammation.
