an earlier study showed some good results in terms of psa reduction

but watch out for cytokine release syndrome

There is a significant chance that cytokine release syndrome correlates to immune response. Hopefully they're keeping track of this. As someone famous, whose name I forget, said: "Fever hates cancer."

You can be proud just for participating in the trial, whether it works or not. It does seem promising.

Hello, again

My doctors are gathering all the necessary information to start the immunotherapy. Blood test, images, biopsy... and if everything is correct on August 7th I will receive the first injection of immunotherapy.

For those of you who are curious about what the clinical trial is all about, I found a link with a drawing that shows very clearly what this immunotherapy is all about.

I am very proud to be a pioneer in this treatment, only 90 men worldwide have received it so far.

I too was enrolled in the Amgen 509 trial. This took place in Pittsburgh. Started Jan ‘22. The first four infusions required a two day hospital stay for observation. I was given the lowest dose (0.1). Fever and aches right after first infusion but nothing bad and symptoms quickly disappeared. After one year in the trial, I developed a form of vasculitis (giant cell arteritis). The pain from this in my head and jaw was excruciating. Fortunately the Dr figured it out pretty fast and I was successfully treated with steroids. They were suspicious that the Amgen either caused or contributed to this problem so I was removed from the trial in March ‘23. The good news is that it appears to still be working 1 1/2 years after I was removed. Had scans and bloodwork last week. Scans looked good and PSA is still undetectable. Only treatment I’m getting is a Lupron shot (for testosterone reduction). During the trial, I was treated so well that I didn’t mind getting an infusion every week. Great staff at the Univ of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Faith has become a huge part of my life since I started this journey. Good luck!!!
