Well, what a long *ss day it was, but I completed the 28 miler up here on my 67th bday, the Big Bear event was postponed to 2025. Did 10, 10, then 8 miles with pit stops at the office for snacks and maybe a beer or two🍺.
Raised $2800 for Make a Wish with $283 cash from the wonderful pts who took a 25th Anniversary wristband that were on the front desk. One long time pt gave $551!!!!
Treated myself to salt/grease that night: Spam, linguica, chicken thigh and lumpia from a pt.
Made my own finishers medal😁
Attended the AIS Cancer Survivor's Day event in Bakes, ran into two lady pts with breast Ca and one was only 37 😢.
Had a lil reunion with the lovely AIS Staff and had to get a pic, the lady in red is a melanoma survivor.
Did the Signatera blood work there and had them do T and PSA too. I know NOT to compare results from different labs, but ... T at 14 and PSA at 1.08 - Kaiser PSA was at 1.2 last month so might be same same😜
Happy birthday Randy! What a busy crazy fun weekend! 28 miles! You are an inspiration to us all!! Wishing you many many more birthdays! Many more marathons! And so much hau'oli!
Mahalo sista, I'm your Crazy Uncle now 🤣Tio Chino Loco en Espanol 😂
I'm glad that it wasn't in Big Bear at 8600 ft, this time my lumbar didn't spasm like last year from stepping over logs and rocks. I wasn't keen on that 3rd lap, but was doing it for the critically ill kiddos💙
just reading about all the activities you are into , makes me tired . Dunno how you do it … sounds like you have 100X more ” get up and go “ than I have. At least I can live vicariously through your fun and exploits. Love you brother Randy.
Mahalo my Bruddah, that walk is the only commitment for a while, and so glad that I did it here and not Big Bear😁 - no beers there til I was done!
The AIS Survivor day was perfect as I had to go to Bakes for the Signatera labwork and then added the T/PSA. Wedding was up here in Bear Valley, not much of a drive.
Glad that y'all can vicariously travel with me or not😆
Alright buddy ….. thanks to you as inspiration, I managed a foray ( Cambridge definition ) to a Starbucks and a Mexican sidewalk restaurant….. this morning before the 100f heat. Had my coffee beverage , talked to a couple nice ladies ( contemporaries ) , socialized, and then shopped some stores and finally had Dos Equis with chips - salsa. All without help….. all with n my etrike from home. Went pretty well, still have some equipment failures to improve/ deal with….. but satisfactory over all. Required substantial prep time to go. And required substantial “ clean up “ time upon return…… went there - did that. A major QOL accomplishment for me . If I can do this, then so can a lot of the other brothers here too. Seems like a dream, probably less so when the beers wear off lol.
You got that right lol. More or less first time Ive been out of the house ( except Kaiser ) in probably a couple of months. Doesn’t seem like much but a big win for me lately. Was stoked to go again today, but already too hot this morning and going to be 106f - 108f for next several days.
Interestingly, on the way back from the shopping center, on the hike and bike trail, I met another guy on a red etrike kinda like mine . A nice mobility cart. He said someone came over and put new batteries in it for him. It had laid unused for several years in his garage. He asked me for pointers on how to get to the clusters of shopping centers ( that I just left ) and I fixed him up. He too has stage 4 pc , coincidentally, and no drivers license just like me. No wife or helpers tho, his etrike will be a “ life changer “ for him ( just like me ) . Pretty kewl stuff.
roooooooger thaaaaaat my compadre ….. you’ve been conditioning those springy legs, your vitals - stats best they been in a long while ….. and it’s a fresh new spring/ summer …. Don’t get much better than that lol. Very kewl.
I’m taking myself , gussied up pee pads and all , out to Starbucks this morning for my coffee beverage and socializing on the patio . ( the hammer off to the casino ) …… gonna stop at a patio taqueria and have a couple Dos Equis … chips and salsa and a taco or two while I’m out buddy. That’s high expectations for me these days . I’ll be on the trike , I’ll have to get back before it gets too hot tho. Expecting near 100f here today.
Speaking of cioppino, we just coincidentally have been gathering the fix’ins for cioppino this week. Finally found the fresh green fennel . Gonna build the base and let it rest - meld for 2 days … then add the shellfish on 3rd day. Bought a couple small a lobster tails to add to the rest too.
Got to start getting ready buddy , have a great day today .
Wow and awesome , happy 67 Birthday man. . Very nice Pics. Was that a 28 mile RUN? Wish I could have planned to go up to Big Bear , From Hemet, It's only 45 min to San Berdo then up the mountain from there. there used to be a little restaurant called CHADs , my wife loved it , (our sons name). Anyway great numbers for you QoL all the way baby!
Oh I have a dental question for you I'll put here on your CHAT
Maurice Dan Kasper aka Wings of Eagles...BTW, did you see any up there?
Mahalo and I walked the 28 miles with my office as the base . Big Bear was postponed due to a poor response, guess they need enough hikers @ $3000 each to get the rooms, vans etc. Yup about PSA any trend down is great, maybe it'll last a while (that's what she said😜)
Mahalo nui loa and It was a long day, but knowing that I had committed to my donors and those kiddos kept me going😁 Ya kinda figured that I'm a #s kinda guy: PSA, Miles, $ raised,l # of marathons
I know you enjoy every bday now more than ever! Wish I could send you some Handel's ice cream to celebrate. Key Lime Pie is the flavor of the month here. Gonna have to try some for QOL booster.
Wow, Cleveland in August. That could be very possible. I'm only a 2 hour drive away. Only a 75 mile pilgramage to the original Handels! If you are coming all the way to Ohio there is no way I'm not coming to meet you! Double negative = double scoop. I'll keep 2025 clear. QOL thoughts.
Lunch at CPK( Dumplings, curry pizza, lime chicken fettuccine), then dessert at Handel's.The Key Lime Pie was so delish, a lil tart and that balanced off the other ones
I'm totes down for 2025 and Steph has always said that she wanted to do a 5k with me💙
