To update my journey, diagnosed on Oct. 2023 with pc, psa of 24.6. PSMA scan showed one met to sacrum, everything else clear. Did 28 rounds radiation and am currently on Lupron and Xtandi. Urologist yesterday said Lupron for one year then off and watch PSA with new PSMA scan also. Medical oncologist is another story-found out yesterday that he died last week at the age of 48-no details forthcoming but quoted as unexpected. Now need to find new MO probably with same office as there are several oncologists in practice.
Question is basically does this sound like standard practice regarding off Lupron after one year? My other concern is heart issues as I do have heart problems, specifically bypass in 1998 but no real issues since then. Cath about 5 years ago showed bypass still clear and some minor blockages in other areas but nothing significant. I understand Lupron may cause heart issues so I do have some concern here.
I have learned so much reading the postings on this group and is my goto place for info. Thanks to all that participate.

my dad has had open heart in 1994 and has been on lupron since 2017 with a two year break but now back on it since 2019 - does well God bless .... just keep being monitored
Get an oncologist-one who specializes in prostate cancer- and ask him. Vacations are traditionally considered risky and there is no solid data supporting them, but many docs are now endorsing them anyway. Either because they believe intermittent is non inferior, or because some patients (like you) have issues that make continuous ADT more of a challenge to your body than is practical.
How much do you exercise and what kind? How are you tolerating the Lupron? This is far more important than considering a vacation.
You are in your 70's with CVD. The Lupron could easily help kill you a lot faster than the disease. Your overall physical health plays a dominant role. Again, talk to the best MO you can find.
