Help for Appetite

My 84 year old Uncle is finishing chemotherapy (metastases to bones, brain, lungs). Was in excellent shape/health until he wasn't. Anyway, he is unable to eat and is losing weight daily, quite weak. Any suggestions for stimulating appetite? His history is irrelevant as he is going to UCSF (lives in the Calif bay area) and is down to months. He is not looking for treatment options, and is shortly to be on hospice.

Thanks so much !

Is marijuana an option? These days it comes in many forms.

Thank you.He is looking for something that doesn't make him "high" so to speak. He's definitely open to derivatives, but none of us know anything about it.

delta 8 gummies are milder than marijuana but still make you ravishingly hungry. They are legal federally and in most states , right now. Use the search bar at top of page and search “ delta 8 “ for all the scoop.

I'm also 84 yrs. old and for the last 3 months I've been doing 5 fruit smoothies with a protein supplement. I vap cannabis and agree with its effectiveness.

You might as well try whatever THC product in your area is legal. There's no telling if he'll get high or not. For me a 10mg THC tincture helps my appetite but it does not make me high. Delta 8 does nothing at all for me but again, you should try it and see.

In TX it's possible to get THC gummies and tinctures legally; if you live in TX, DM me and I'll give you more details. Delta 8 is legal here just keep in mind there's no regulation on it to speak of.

Really appreciate the info. We live in California, I'm thinking there's things available here, I just don't understand any of it.Thanks so much, I'll research THC tinctures.

IMHO, the most important thing to understand is that typically the dosage on the package is the dosage in the entire package. For example, if the package says 100mg of gummies and there are 10 gummies, that means each gummy is 10mg.

The dropper in a tincture is graduated so you can tell approximately how much you're getting per dropper.

Go with a low dose and don't spend much money on it first time in case it doesn't work. A low dose of delta 9 THC is 5 to 10 mg.

If going with cannabis containing THC which causes the "high".

This article is possibly useful for those new to or needing information about dosage etc.

Periactin may be able to be prescribed to help with appetite if he wishes to eat more easily.

Chipnick suggested a good option. Periactin is brand name and generic name for this Apetite Stimulant is CYPROHEPTADINE. This medicine has been around for last at least 40 years and initially was commonly used in under norished, failure to thrive children to make them eat better and gain healthy weight. It is a safe appetite safe and cheap medicine. Many experienced older Doctors use this prescription med to keep to keep elderly norished in Adult care/nursing home in many countries and in USA too. Ask if your Primary doctor is willing.
