Whats high PSA? ( when you havent been diagnosed with prostate cancer)

After father was diagnosed. Several family member went and tested themselves with PSA tests.

My husband was 39 years old and his PSA test came back 1,9 and this year at 40 years his PSA was 1,6, free PSA added 0,4 ( which was good).

I read somewhere that PSA 1,5 and higher is of concern. I feel that this is quite high for his age. Should we be worried for the future?

I know he should be tested every 1-2 yrs but still. Of what we know he does not have any family members that have been diagnosed with it.

Is there something he can eat to lower it or is his prostate maybe bigger for his age?

Only if his PSA is increasing . I was diagnosed with prostate cancer when my PSA increased from 2.0 to 3.4 over 15 months.

Unless there are symptoms, PSAs under 3 are good. Prostate Health Index (PHI) or 4KScore are more specific.

Whats PHI and 4KScore?

They are blood tests that are more specific than PSA. Discuss with the urologist.

I was told 4 or more is "too high". Then you get the prostate biopsy that shows whether or not there is cancer. I know men with PSA >4 who don't have cancer so get the biopsy if indicated.

Take a look at this article that I posted some time back...I would have acted on my PSA once it got to 2.0...I had family history of PCa cancer as well, which would have dictated not waiting for 4.0...note that PSA of 4.0 is NOT a guarantee that you will not have PCa...I did not know that and its the biggest mistake of my life...check this out. PSA density as well as PSADT doubling time are very important to track.

Without burying you in data, if I were your father I would get a pMRI ASAP...dont wait. If it shows something wait 6-9 months, rinse and repeat. One thing about PCa...if you catch this thing early your options are greater for treatment and your outcomes are far, far, far better...dont be afraid of this disease; FEAR not doing what you need to do in time. Thank you!! My father already has/had prostatecancer and has done a prosectomy and watching his PSA levels now after.

I was concerned a bit over my husband that is younger and had a PSA of 1,6. Much appreciated of the link and your input!

Hello Daddysgirl,

4.0 (4,0) or higher is the recommended time for a biopsy (you use commas we use decimals). Also if PSA spikes from 2.0 (2,0) to 3.0 (3,0) in a short period of time (let's say 1 year) that would be another recommended time for a biopsy. Note: The rule of thumb here in the US is for men over 50 years old to have a PSA blood test and Digital exam check once a year. For me I would have it checked starting at 45 years old. Best Wishes For all the men and women in your family.......

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

I would incorporate ivermectin with any psa over 2.0, it has the ability to kill cancer ♋️ cells at an early stage and you won’t have to worry about advanced cancer cells that develop, kill the pca cells early n effectively…

Whats ivermectin ?

It’s an anti parasitic, anti viral drug that also is being repurposed to treat cancers n recommended by Pub med (nhi). I personally am using it along w cbd for my adv Pca and having very encouraging results thus far. Something you may want to look into at very early stages when psa is below 2…

Here’s the article you can look up

Normal PSA levels can be different from one man to the next. The only sure way to know if you are hitting a high level is if you have plotted your PSA over previous years.

Every young man should be taught to ask for PSA to be added every time they do a standard blood panel. Like at your check-up. After plotting it for dome years, you will learn that your PSA is, say, always between 1.1-1.9 (my numbers). So one fateful day when the doc said... oh your PSA is great, its 2.2. I was pretty sure i was screwed. I was correct.

Thanks for your input! But isnt it so that with age ( 40s to 70s) its normal that PSA elevate a bit?

yes you are correct. I fogot to explain that part. As men age rhe prostate does grow, so it does produce more PSA over time. Also with PCa (cancer), you are gaining cells so you also produce more PSA.

When you graph your PSA i think you should be able to discern the difference. With a growing prostate, it seems you should see a drifting upward over the years (i did not). With PCa, you should see the PSA start climbing a wall.

I also had many prostatitis episodes and never once saw this PSA spike they talk of.

I did not invent this graphing idea. I read about it many many years ago when the industry fully supported the PSA test. Now they don’t speak of it anymore so you get some guy come in at age 60 for his first PSA test and say its a 3. They don’t know if he’s normally a 3 or if it was 1 through his life until 6 months ago.

Or worse the guy walks in and throws down a PSA 80 on his first test and nobody ever cared to look before.
