My wife is recovering from Pneumonia and has very little energy. I'm 60 and in good shape, so should I be able to drive myself?

In my case I did for all 39 chemos, no SEs that affected driving, but everyone is different.

There's this too: chemocars.org/#:~:text=Chem....

Hi V10fanatic,

Usually there are enough time in between each treatment (three weeks for me) for you to bounce back from the side effects, enabling you to drive.

I’m 63, drove myself to all 8 of my treatments.

yes, you should, everyone is different but normally they fill you with cortisone before the infusion so you would feel the side effects the next day (if any)

They've prescribed me 10mg of Dexamthasone the night before and morning of, so I suspect I'll be "roiding out" a bit ;-)

I’m surprised that you are taking the Dexamethasone the night before . I took 10mg the morning of treatment and the day after. It was great and allowed me to play Pickleball both days. I would get hit with SEs the 3rd day on every cycle.

My MO is crazy then…50 mg the evening before, 50 mg the evening after, 100 mg the next day split between morning and evening!

Here in Germany, before every Docetaxel infusion, the accompanying drugs Granisetron (against nausea), Dexamethasone (against vomiting) and Fenistil (against allergic reactions) are administered. Fenistil makes you very tired (like a sleeping pill) and the doctors strongly advise you not to drive.

You shouldn't have any problems other than inconsiderate drivers. You will cruise through this. Best, Marshall.

Thanks for the kind words Marshall. The hospital is 3 minutes from home, so I probably won't even have to worry about other drivers either.

to V10 fan,

Shoot, in your case just get into the car using the front door and exit using the rear door and Voilà you're home.........

The day of treatment was usually one of the days when I felt pretty good. I didn’t start feeling bad for a couple of days after. I drove to all my chemo appointments.

I had no issues and drove all through Chemo.

Check with your medical team. Different treatment centers do different pre-med routines. If your pre-meds include an antihistamine (Benadryl in my case, or Fenistil as mentioned by mypk above), then you should not drive that day.

I did. I worked full time during my 6 and the bulk of the fatigue didn't hit for a few days after.

Yes. Should be no problem for you.

I drove without problem but did appreciate my wife joining me for companionship. It would be good if you find someone else to accompany you.

I can't afford the potential damage that might incur!

Duct tape and plastic Zip ties (tie up one or both). BTW available at your friendly neighborhood Home Depot.... Reminder: wear a ski mask when you're at the check out counter at Home Depot. Also: good idea to wear your old high school / college football uniform with padding and helmet.......(Remove numbers on uniform)...
