I have been on Zoladex for nearly 7 years and am fully over any regrets of Chemical castration. My psa is now slowly rising and ghastly taken 2 years from undetectable to 0.65. I am considering surgical castration now as it would mean no more 3 monthly Zoladex injections and a reduced chemical load on my body. I am fit and well , 83 years of age, and no heart or diabetes problems.
Does anyone have any comment regarding possible medical complications?

He was on Eligard every 3 months. He had hot flashes while taking Eligard, but they weren't too bad. He really didn't have any other side effects except for muscle loss. The reason he did it was to have one less poison going into his body. He's happy he did it.
I did. Medicare covered it. Oncologist put me on Erleada because adrenals still produce testosterone. Hated that stuff. Switched to aberaterone and prednisone.
Thanks just finished 5 years on Lupron. I do like seeing my MO every 3 months so I can lobby him to consider BAT, estrogen gell, and other unorthodox things. But I follow the orchiectomy debate.
I considered orchiectomy several years ago, but was talked out of it by both my MO and urologist. But now I am reconsidering, and have been reviewing the posts online here -- there are many on this subject. The one "con" to keep in mind is that at your age (and mine--I'm 78) it might be minor surgery, but it's still surgery, and surgery always has the potential of complications (including infections).
I am same as as you. After 5 years of intermittent Lupron my metastatic prostate cancer is now castrate resistant as confirmed by rising PSA and new node on PSMA scan. My PSA increased from 0.3 to 0.8 in 3 months.
Let do the castration only inguinal - thats my experience. Its better, when you will get an infection. Right i had an inguinal castration, and the wound burst after 10 days and the pus welled out and was healed close after some days. Here the pus couldnt flow down into the sac-shelf, because the doc hat sewed close the inguinal-canal.
my left egg the doc cut out directly from its sac-shelf. It would better heal - he meaned. But here the pus was collected in the sac-shelf, and after 12 days i went to the ER for riping open the wound and emptying the full baggy from pus with following 5 weeks drainage and spoiling. No pain very much but not so comfortably.
If your doc will insist to cut out your eggs directly from their sac-shelfs, than you should insist on a drainage, but into the lowest point of your sac!!! thereby the pus will flow out well already by gravity! Otherwise our sac-shelfs will be the best pus-collectors and pus-producers!! My drainage from the wound in the above region of the sac-shelf was silly made. But i laid at the table and the doc had made his work... additionally i was gladly, that the shit came out...and later first i found out the disadvantages...
