Post-ADT, does one's ability to maintain weight get better?

This is for those lucky ones whose treatment has reached the point where their PCa is not active and ADT has ended.

Does the ability to maintain a healthy weight get better? How long after?

I managed my weight during ADT with gym 5 days a week and intermittent fasting

Easy, I only eat what I like......... (note: I like everything and only put one foot on the scale)....

Good thing you're NOT BIGFOOT 'cause it would be more difficult only putting 1 TOE on the scale.

Aew you referring to the tendency to gain fat weight durinng ADT, and you hoped for loss of fat weight adter ending ADT?

My buddy gained 10kgs and lost it by daily walking 5kms, low carb, plant based diet with pulses and some fish and chicken added. Took 6 months of effort.

For many (myself included) change in body composition was the issue, not maintaining weight. My weight didn’t change, my muscle to fat ratio did. This was with plenty of exercise.

For nearly everyone, actual weight gain on ADT is entirely fat.

I could have restricted calories but I just wasn’t into it. I traded that for QOL, the sarcopenia was tough enough already. I recovered to pre ADT levels in about a year.

Remember: A ‘healthy’ weight, as you call it, is not determined by the scale.

Prednisone can have a lot to do with cravings. ADT of course doesn't help. I am going to try taking prednisone at bedtime.

Definitely can be done. I've lost 50 lbs in the last 7 months, 30 to go while still on Lupron/Xtandi. Things kind of got away from me during covid. Eat less, exercise more, just gotta be consistent with it. ADT is the greatest excuse in the world, but the only way to lose weight or maintain weight is... just do it.

I think the answer to your question is "yes." I have lost the 20 pounds I put on during ADT, it took over a year to do it, and I modified my diet slightly to help accomplish it. I doubt that just stopping ADT would have removed the extra weight, unfortunately, but probably would have just kept additional weight from piling on. 🦊

Cancerfox, thanks. You got my question. It was about the only posting that made clear you are talking about _after_ ADT.

I'm thinking that stopping ADT likely will not magically make fat disappear, note - it is fat -- NOT MUSCLE -- that was added to your body, unless you went on an extreme Mr. Universe fitness plan.

Diet + Exercise will do the job.
