QoL Looking Forward to This…

It only took Us 25 years to build,. The land and the too small to live in cottage was purchased in 1995. The cottage was from the early 1900’s. Unfortunately it was beyond repair, out of code and ready to retire. It only took 8 years with lots of red tape to build. . This is what my wife does. It was ready in 2020 but we needed the bulk head, environment clearance and certification of occupancy to go in…

It’s an elevated waterfront house with an above ground basement. It’s 19’ above flood base line and has stairs with an elevator for my mother in law and my mother.

Take a peek of what our daily view will be..

We have moving trucks coming tomorrow.

You coming to the first music JaM party festivities?

Hence, “JaM” my wife and I, our first name initials.

I’m a guitarist and lead vocalist for 25 years, guitarist since age 8.

My wife is also a poet and songwriter hence the fragmented sentence’s…

We both worked in self owed, private and public industries.

Looking forward to hopefully meeting brothers and wives on this board.

Thank you

boy a house at the beach …. I want one . yayahahahaya. There is no owning a beach house in these parts of California, …… for ordinary mortals, or even for most well heeled ones.

That’s gonna be wonderful …

Love it.

It was a mission, a quest for my wife to do and it’s ongoing…landscaping perhaps expanding…I see that California is very expensive, we have family in Cali and the homes are absolutely astronomical…it’s gotten ridiculous.

Thank you

Yea California is difficult to live in sometimes. My monthly utility electric bill is over $700 every month and gasoline is $5.89 a gallon. Like you said, housing has skyrocketed. Even owning a house outright is “ still “ expensive. I live in the Metro burbs. Yard and grounds care ,alone , are big expenses that people don’t even consider when trying to move here. No one is going to go out in 110f weather and manicure their lawn and grounds every few days. You have to hire a gardener. Everyone that has fruit trees ( like me ) , and that’d be every house around here , has to hire in a “ bug control “ service. ( fruit dropped off the trees will draw swarms of Giant flying fruit roaches, and clouds of fruit flies ). People typically have a person to mow - trim the bushes and lawn and another service to come in and weed & feed it . Even the small front yards our subdivision has cost $8000 - $15000 to replace. If you don’t water and feed it , exactly, ( fescue or Bermuda) , it’ll be lost in just a couple - 3 months in our harsh environment. I have a few palm trees and it takes another bush and tree service to come in and remove the dead fronds. They climb up high in the trees with telephone pole climbers and manicure them. Palms are very leathery and resistant to trimming, it takes a “ young strong man “ to climb 35-45 feet in 110f weather and sit up there and trim them.

Like nearly all central and Southern California cities, everything is “ man made “ … originally this land was tumbleweeds, sagebrush, and cactus … turning it into a lush ( phoney , man made ) oasis costs big money. Fresno is beautiful in most parts of town , a year round botanical show of flashy trees , shrubs and flowers. Absolutely none of it native. If the snow melt and glacier water disappeared, this land would soon revert to desert again.

Stunning, congratulations on your achievement, I wish you many happy times together in your new home, it certainly looks worth all the effort.

Quite a few years back, we lived and worked by the Atlantic ocean, each day had a difference. The light of dawn was the most impressive and seeing the twinkling lights of the fishing boats out beyond the cove was something everyone should have whitnessed. Not to mention being pinned to a wall during the gale force winds.

Let your music flow and your mind wander, all the best to you and Mrs Jam 😊

Thank you Shorehousejam. We are just about to move house in a couple of weeks. I am sure some people we know will have been thinking why are they adding stress and upheaval to their lives? We have dreamed of this move for years, but there was Covid followed by the cancer diagnosis and we didn’t know if we should still follow our dreams. We decided if not now, when (my new favourite battle cry)? Staying where we are was like saying game over. We are so excited and making many plans which has felt great and helped us to stop thinking about the cancer as the only thing going on. Best wishes in your new home.

Thank you, I totally agree…at first when I was diagnosed I was like oh no I can’t pack now, mean while my wife pack up everything on her own during the last year toward house build being complete, so we bought time and waited 14 months after my diagnosis, one month later, now my PSA might be rising…Hope it’s just a bump…

My dad lived to be 88 with PC and had been diagnosed 17 years prior, just passing 7 weeks ago.

He ALWAYS had something to look forward to and never spoke of what was wrong.

10 Days prior to his death, he was still talking about taking a dream trip to Africa.

5 years ago my parents, moved from a 2800 Sq ft. English Tudor, into a 4200 Sq ft Tri-level condo that they gutted and redecorated in contemporary furnishings.

He NEVER lost his passion for life and always told people "FIND SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO AND FOCUS ON THAT".

May we all be blessed with positive thoughts and may all of your roads be paved with strength, and happy moments

with love

Dawn

at last I have met someone from da Bronx??? Would you imagine that when I was a child in Italy to say that someone came from a dangerous neighbourhood we said "he is from the Bronx" ? of course we watched too much TV :-P

j-o-h-n profile image
j-o-h-n in reply to Maxone73

Not too much TV...... more The daily News and the The daily Mirror newspaper's front pages.... BTW The south Bronx was "Da Bronx".... the rest of the The Bronx was called "The Bronx"........

Here are two street gangs from my era which you may appreciate their names; The "Guinea Dukes" and the "IT's = Italian Tigers".

Now where the hell did I put my old "Home made gun" and my "Zip Gun".....

Brooklyn to us Bronxites was another country..... but with a nickel and a proper passport (your piece) you could get "some Nathans"....... Never heard of the Warriors but the farthest gang south of us that we knew was on the West side of midtown Manhattan called the "Irish Dukes" (tough and mean dudes - a chapter of them in the Bronx)......

We just bought a lot when I was DX. I took my mind off it when I built our dream house. It didn't take 25 years though, only two. We have a similar view to yours and it never gets old. We have been in it three years now. I hope you have many years to enjoy your dream!

My wife temporarily lived in a log cabin as a child in waterfront Quebec, Many years later she went to thousand islands to scout land and to Nova Scotia plus Hudson Bay. She states all of Canada especially “Nova Scotia is the “real” waterfront. Lol She also looked in the Carolina’s and Florida. But, for now this will suit us perfectly.

It’s must be glorious there where you are…

When my wife and I met, we moved up county New York. She wanted Hudson River Frontage. It’s also gotten ridiculously priced out as NYC Manhattanites leave NYC in droves…It took 25 years because it was not an urgency, enjoying our lives in Westchester NY. We moved further up, into the Croton on Hudson Area of NY.

So, she put it on the back burning, drawing up schematics and doing research etc. So it really took 8 years, absolutely long enough.

In New York, since the 1990’s, Bay, Creek, Inlet, Lake, Ocean, River, and Stream are difficult to build due to the environment organizations set up by the WEF. All with connection to state onto local town governments plus environmental organizations. They all made it extremely difficult. In my opinion homes in the New York Area take the longest to build..
