Any bad experiences with AUS’s, especially re sex?

I’ve suffered from heavy urinary incontinence for over a decade since my prostatectomy in 2011.

After hearing about the high success rate and positive impact of artificial urinary sphincters (AUS’s), I’m about ready to request my experienced prostate surgeon at Kaiser to install one for me – if I can convince him to do so.

Before making that request, however, I want to make sure I understand what risks I run in having an AUS implanted – particularly any risks that might adversely impact the blessing I’ve had of being able to continue enjoying good sexual relations with my beloved wife – thanks to her understanding, my prostate surgeon’s nerve-sparing operation, and daily 5mg doses of Cialis.

I’d like to hear from any individuals who have had personal experience with problems resulting from AUS implants – either on this forum or privately – so I can make as informed a decision as I can. Reports of good experiences are welcome too!

Thanks!

I had my AUS done 4 years ago, it was the best decision I have made, however, I have no sex life. I have had surgery, radiation and now on lupron. If you are thing about the the AUS find a doctor that has done hundreds of the surgery.

Thanks for your quick response. Just to be clear, however, do you mean you had no sex life before as well as after the AUS surgery? Or did the AUS surgery end your sex life?

I had some sex life until I had radiation, I have been on lupron continuously since 2016 and xtandi of 14 months. Lupron will kill your sex drive. I don’t think the AUS would have any effects on your sex life. Like I said find a doctor that has done hundreds of the surgerys.
