Had the beginning of man boobs, lost 20 lbs and incorporated an extra day of chest exercises in my routine. Took a year but they are gone

Then it was just fat and flabby muscle.

Breast tissue is different. But glad you corrected it!!!

It’s no different cosmetically, which is what the fuss is about. Tamoxifen works, but get leaner and stronger with it for best results.

Tamoxifen 20mg/day to reverse it. 10 mg/ day thereafter.

Will do, and thanks again.

So tamoxifen actually reduces them? Any side effects?

My husband did bical monotherapy for 2.5 years because we were afraid Lupron or Firmagon would make his cognitive impairment worse. He started to develop gynecomastia about 2 months in. On T_A's advice, we asked for 10 mg tamoxifen right away. The 10 mg reversed his gynecomastia within 2 weeks. For the entire 2.5 years, he had no side effects from either the bical or the tamoxifen.

Thanks.

I’ve been using estradiol patches since Feb 2019 and they’ve really worked well with far less side effects than Lupron but my man boobs are quite disgusting. But I’m 79 and don’t exactly walk around with shirt off anymore.

I’ve also been on Xtandi since February 21 when psa started to creep up but psa has stayed at <.1 ever since.

I’ve had so much trouble over the last few years with incontinence and UTIs from radiation , including two hospital stays this year of three and one week respectively with sepsis that I’m afraid of rocking the boat with another medication.

Since March , when the AUS I had inserted last year became infected and had to be removed, I’ve been using a Foley Catheter.

The only potential side effect is increase in clotting. Women have used if for many years for breast cancer. Now, tamoxifen is available as a transdermal, so even that should not be a problem. For example:

Thanks TA but I’m standing pat for the reasons indicated in my post. I don’t need any more problems and I don’t consider man boobs to be a problem.

Boonster profile image

I certainly see the sense of standing pat. One non-medicinal way of reducing man boobs in with a compression vest. Sort of like Spandex.

Yea I ordered one awhile back. Didn’t fit and pain to put on!

Tall _allen. There are two meds that are recommended for reducing or preventing man boobs due to ADT. Also radiation of the breast tissue can prevent them. But as mentioned already, losing weight and lifting weights can help. I'll tell you pushups are super effective at developing pectoral muscles, it that's what you're after.

Tall_Allen profile image
Tall_Allen in reply to TJGuy

Gynecomastia is the accumulation of mammary glandular tissue. It is not just fat accumulation. The nipples can feel tender and painful, too. Chest radiation is problematic and often works poorly.

thelancet.com/journals/lano...

Tamoxifen is the only med I know of that can prevent (10 mg/day) or reverse (20 mg/day) gynecomastia.

If it has gone on for a long time to where connective tissue has formed, a dermatologist may be able to fix it.

Science/Human: CBD may reduce side effects of tamoxifen in breast cancer treatment

Tamoxifen, which is used in long-term treatment of certain forms of breast cancer, may lead to bothersome side effects contributing to non-compliance and decreased quality of life. Investigators of the Department of Medical Oncology at Erasmus Medical Center Cancer Institute in Rotterdam, The Netherlands conducted an open-label, single-arm study and found out that CBD oil may relieve symptoms. Pharmacokinetic sampling and side effect assessment was done at initiation of CBD-oil and 28 days thereafter.

The endocrine sub-scale of the FACT-ES, a questionnaire on side effects, improved clinically relevant with 6.7 points and health-related quality of life improved with 4.7 points after using CBD. There was no significant change in bioavailability of tamoxifen. The authors concluded “that CBD-oil, if of good quality and with a dosage below 50?mg, does not have to be discouraged in patients using it for tamoxifen-related side effects.

This is for men with prostate cancer, not for women with breast cancer.

NewPotatoCaboose profile image

I understand that. But if men utilizing it for PC have side effects, CBD oil may address them.

What side effects are you talking about?

Kaliber profile image

yea, all that other stuff mentioned …… or …….

Put some nipple rouge and piercings on them , start up a Reddit or TicTok influencer channel about “ man boobs and manziers “, start up your “ go fund me “ page to get donations to “ deal with them “ …!!! Take the money that pours in and take a trip to Hawaii and “ deal with them “ by soaking them in a Maui black sand surf. It’ll make them feel MUCH better every time, guaranteed.

Just say’in

😂😂😂

Bspouse profile image

This link says that broccoli increases testosterone. Is that true and if so, does that mean eating broccoli is bad if you have prostate cancer?

timotur profile image
timotur in reply to Bspouse

The mechanism is a compound called DIM inhibits an enzyme called aromatase, which converts testosterone to estrogen— so less boob-enhancing estrogen.

You can reduce them with weight training

Incline presses lift the diagram and add mass to the upper chest

This will eventually reduce the boob look

It will take a while

Do these exercises

Dumbell pullovers

Incline dumbell and barbell presses

Dumbell Incline side lateral

Bring the bar down to the chest slowly 3 to 5 seconds

The positive rep should be more explosive 1 second

45 degree angle on the gench

These work I teach every day

Heavy or light weights?

Dumbell 'fly'. Lay on back on bench, arms straight out to side, lift weights up in an arc.

I had breast reduction surgery. Medicare paid because (likely) the diagnosis code of gynecomastia was on my chart. With continued hormone manipulation some regrowth over the past years since but without the surgery it would be much more now. I am glad I did it. I use compression undershirt occasionally if my top shows noticeably. Loose clothing, varied color pattern also help diminish appearance.

I believe there are medications you can take. My oncologist mentioned irradiating them which apparently cures it forever. But ask your oncologist; in my case, it's one side only and not an issue.

Mine went away after I lost a lot of weight. I ended ADT 15 months ago.

Miccoman profile image

I had them irradiated when the nipples became too sensitive. 3 quick sessions and they stopped growing. Wish I had known about alternatives, though, to reduce them as now that I am loosing weight they are more prominent. So baggy T shirts it is!

Mine started to grow when I began taking Zytiga, Prednisone, and lupron although I only stayed on that treatment for less than three months due to other severe SE I am know only on a Lupron injection every four months, but I also take Biktarby which is another weight enhancer. I have been wearing compression shirts to go to work for about six months now. I despise the way they bounce when I walk fast or do a little running. They are a pain to get on and off them, summer weather doesn't help either. But I can't afford being bullied at work where coincidentally I am surrounded by females.
