Tequila!!! For your health and longevity?

Yesterday I had a interesting conversation with spider 54 and one of the topics we talked about was tequila.I am not advocating for anyone to  start drinking alcohol spirits but if you do consume them I think it is a no-brainer to switch to Tequila.

Tequila is made from the blue agave plant which is related to the Aloa vera plant they both come from the same family ( Asperagales) although they come from different continents and have much different characteristics.

I was a long time drinker of Bourbon whiskey but about a year ago I switched to Congac because it is made from grapes and felt that corn based products are not the best for one’s health. We live in a corn based society and it is my guess that it might be one of the factors behind the prevalence of ill health.  I have now decided to switch to Tequila. As Spyder so convincingly stated it is like cleansing from the inside out.

I have asked Spyder to relate the story he told me. It is highly anicdotal and not even verifiable but once I thought about it the old light bulb illuminated. For me the switch is just another potential benefit with very little downside. You all know how much I appreciate a good risk/ reward proposition.😎

Mike’s story;

I too am not a big drinker, nor advocating drinking, but it does take the edge off, and alter my state of mind.

A few years back, my wife and I did a Groupon coupon for a Couples Massage. I had an elderly Hispanic Woman with big puffy hands and a gentle disposition. We quietly talked while I had this great massage.

Lady:what brought you to St Petersburg?

Me: my wife’s Mother needed some assistance and we had purchased a rental home w tenants moving out, so we moved in, and moved from California. She is gone now.

Lady: how bout your Parents?

Me:I said yes, both are also gone now.

I looked at the masseuses hands and guessed probably late 70’s, but strong. I asked how bout your parents?

Lady: Actually my Mom is older than my Dad at 103 yrs old, and my Father is 102 both going strong.

Me: Wow, great genetics

Lady: maybe, actually all 4 of my Grandparents lived over 100!

Me: Wow, you have Super genetics with you.

Lady: not sure about that

Me: if not Super Genetics, what then?

Lady: starting at-age 14, we have a ritual of everyone having a shot of Tequila. Not 2 or 3. Just 1 shot of Tequila. You see, we believe in the medicinal healing powers of the Agave’ Plant. Much like the Aloe’ Vera plant, we believe Tequila heals you from the inside out.

Me: I am switching today.

That was 2019. I was diagnosed in Oct 2020.

To this day, I will drink Tequila on the Rocks w a lime. Straight up if it is an Anejo, or some Reposado’s. Margarita if it is a celebration.

DOES IT WORK?

It all works. ADT2/3, SABR, Supps, Pomi-T, Green Tea, Cruciferous Vegetables, Exercise, High Ph Coffee, High Ph Water, Good Sleep, Surround yourself w Love. Make Life an Adventure. And…yes, TEQUILA !!

Hopefully the combo buys us time.

My best to you and yours, Mike

I have had my share in the past. Not all Anejo is created equal so prefer Silver in general, Patron kept in the freezer was my preference.

That stopped a while back as just one was very difficult for me.

what do you mean by “Anejo, or some Reposado’s. “??

Schwah

Spyder54 profile image
Spyder54 in reply toSchwah

there is Silver Agave Tequila at the $ low end,

Reposado, moderately $ priced, but some are smooth enough to be consumed straight up, usually 1-5 years of aging.

And Anejo, very smooth, but $expensive. Often aged 5-12 years. Some Tequila’s can go up to $2,500 per bottle and more. I was raised a lower class kid, so $40 per bottle is my comfort zone. If you pay $20, it will burn all the way down, and not taste that good. Mike

thanks Spyder. So what would you recommend that I could buy at the local liquor store for $40/80 range.

Scout4answers profile image
Scout4answers in reply toSchwah

since my conversation with Spyder I did a deep dive into the types and quality and found the best value proposition was at Costco, no surprise there, The bottle pictured above is Anejo which means aged 1-3 years = good quality the cost was $32 for a 1 liter bottle, Patron Silver at Costco was $80. the next level up is extra anejo and the highest quality is Crystalo which can run hundreds of $s

Don Julio and Patron seem to be the most popular brands.

if you want a truly unique Tequila experience, …. a shot of anejo chased with a shot of 32% thujone Absinthe ( only available in France and Czechoslovakia, you need a special “ friend “ to get this in the USA. It is possible DIY thru Brewhaus if you want )

Recommend two shots Tequila ….. wait til burn over , then…. one shot of Absinthe poured over sugar fire …. dark green Absinthe.

French sidewalk restaurant patrons , at the turn of the 19th -20th century invented this drink ….some claimed it caused wild hallucinations., it was so wildly popular it was banned in France. You’d have to be the judge …

❤️❤️❤️

The name of this drink is called “ the corpse reviver “ … this is one variation.

Anejo and 32% French Absinthe …

My neighbor across the way swears by it, Anejo that is, once a week either IRL with his son, or long distance with his brother. Wish I could but one of my meds says it's a no no 😞 Cheers 🍸

my neighbors recently had to put their old dog down. they were told two years ago to do it then because of cancer. when diagnosed they started feeding him everything a dog wasn’t suppose to have but what he still had a nose for. Like you I don’t advocate alcohol and especially not in access but just like that old dog, with the prognosis that was his, how could a steak and chocolate have done anymore harm? instead it made for a satisfied dog and certainly seemed to make the family happy enough over the past two years. I’m thinking a shot of Tequila now and then might just be satisfying enough to help keep the lights on. Be well

Mescal is a smoked version it’s very good too

maggiedrum profile image
maggiedrum in reply toRJAMSG

Mezcal is actually made from a mezcal plant, not agave. There may be some smoked but I don't know. Just as strong as tequila. Normally I will only drink when I am happy, never when sad or angry. It may be medicinal but correlating that with cancer control is a sketchy deal without a double blind trial. I have swallowed the worm that comes in the bottle with some mezcals.

I prefer tequila. It gives you a very different "high" than other spirits. The few times I got drunk on it, one memorable time with my little brother where we crossed the Rio on small rowboats rowed by kids to a little town on the other side. The place you walked down from the road was eroded clay bank. You could ride a burrow on the other side up to the town for a dollar. Rowboat ride was $4 roundtrip. With a wagon train club. We were left there by the group as we were well plastered. Driving to the first town with a hotel (in Alpine) we went through a border checkpoint a few miles up the road. They didn't say anything about us being obviously drunk. The whole deal is history now. The town dried up since no more gringos. Major hangover. It was a bonding experience with my bro. Neither one of us go that far.

I honestly would be a skeptic about tequila helping with cancer. But it definitely could go head to head with morphine at the end. Not good for your stomach. It does have a mystical reputation.

Mezcal, sometimes spelled mescal, is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from any type of agave. The word mezcal comes from Nahuatl mexcalli, which means "oven-cooked agave"

I guess you're going to patent this danged cure so we have to mortgage the place to buy it. And we probably'll have to get an Rx for it. I know what you and Spyder are up to!

I have a notion that the Mexican Masseuse was using Mexican Math to calculate her Families' longevity. One sip of Teq .... add 1 to birthday, two sips of Teq add 2 and etc...

Viva Zap-ata....... (we will rename New Mexico back to just Mexico)......

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

Cosmo Azteca: In a tall 12 oz glass (taken from the freezer and then sat in a coozie): 2 shots Luna Azul Reposado (or your fav), 1/2 shot Grand Marnier (could sub Triple Sec) Add maybe 2 teaspoons Organic Agave Syrup. Stir well so that the agave will further dissolve into the room temp. alcohols. Add 2-3 shots (ounces) Trader Joe's Cranberry Juice not from concentrate and no sugar added. Add approx 2 ounces fresh squeezed (on the spot) orange juice, and one ounce fresh squeezed lime juice. Stir well. Add 4 ice cubes or what ever amount it takes to fill the glass. Stir gently. There is always a hard part , and that's figuring out how to drink it slowly.

I have limited tolerance for alcohol so I may get 2 of these over a long period of listening to vinyl records. Nerve-ahh-na..... and never a hangover. There is a "brightness factor" for me to Tequila versus other alcohols. There is another Tequila (white) that is unique in that it has been "oxygenated". I was gifted shots one night at a bar in VA. Super smooth and I am very sensitive so I was impressed. Again no hangover. I will have to research to find the name again, it is about $25 per 750ml. Apparently they are the only one doing this to their tequila.

8 months post MRI-linac (no ADT) and all is well so far but still in the "grace period"
