Wife of mCRPC. You men are rockstars. Need advice

Hello! I’m a wife of mCRPC. Although I’m new to posting, I’ve been reading your stories for 2 months and can’t thank you enough for all the info you unknowingly provided to me! My question - If his PSA continues to decline on Taxotere, does he stop after 6? Based on my bio, do you have any suggestions about what’s next? Does anyone go into a temp remission, or shall we expect PSA to rise shortly after infusion stops? Doc mentioned potentially continuing more chemo Had 2 thus far. Does that sound right? Any experiences and thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have no treatment advice for you. Others are better suited for that. I just wanted to offer my support and say that I am glad you found this place early in your journey. Good people here with a wealth of knowledge. Congratulations on your husband’s good response early in treatment. Glad you are able to have gratitude.

Enjoy the smooth sailing times with all the earnestness at your command. Many men living a very long time with this disease. There is hope for new treatments down the line. Focus on the good. Take the trips. Do things you have always wanted. You get to choose how to LIVE with this.

Welcome to the club doesn’t sound quite right, but you’ve found the right place. Best wishes to you in this journey.

If he continues to tolerate Taxotere as well as he has been, his doctor my decide to give him up to 10 infusions. After that, Pluvicto.

Wow! The infamous Tall_Allen replied to my first post. Lol. You’re one of the many “rockstars” I’ve been following. You’re info is very helpful. Thank you!

Ugh! My dry humor may not have translated in writing. To clarify, I have nothing but gratitude for Tall_Allen. Very funny, Rodney Dangerfield. :)

Hi, in my case my MO gave me 9 more Taxotere sessions in 2015 for a total of 15 that year. PSA went from 840.2 to 0.7 at the end of 2015. A nadir of 0.1 in the Summer of 2017.

The longer it takes and the lower the nadir the better the prognosis. I believe that is still the case in TTN (Time to Nadir)

Had an 18 month Hormone Holiday and then restarted Lupron in 12/2018. Did Abiraterone in 01/2020, that failed, and so did Xtandi.

On 12/31/20 did A 6 Taxotere rechallenge, but by 9/21 PSA was up to 5.5. Had 18 Cabazitaxels starting 11/2021, PSA kept rising to 34 in 03/23.

Had 28 IMRTs and PSA finally dropped, it is now 9.7. Hopeful for a continued decline.

Hope springs eternal💙 - Alexander Pope

Wild ride you’ve been on, and I’m impressed by your determination. Another rockstar!!! May I ask what a nadir is? Sorry, I’m fairly new to the PC lingo, but I catch on quickly. Wishing you all the best!

Yea, i'm on the Crazy Train youtu.be/bwDpAfFzcRQ

Oh, I'm sorry the nadir is the lowest point reached - so the longer it takes to get there and the lower the lowest point may indicate a better prognosis

Awww, Mahalo nui loa (Thank you very much)💙

I said before that I'm so Grateful to still be here coming up on 9 yrs this 10/13/23.

Old data said 28 % chance of 5 years.

Btw, set a walking goal of 552.2 miles as that was the PSA on 10/13/14🤣 LoL

I've also stated that "Life's too short to be a jerk"😆

I started Taxotere in January of this year with a PSA of 3.5. My PSA continued to drop with each cycle, and dropped to .15 at cycle 6. My MO recommended I continue with the chemo for 10 cycles. I am lucky that I’m having a good response and very few side effects. When the PSA starts to rise again and scans show progression of the cancer in my pelvic lymph nodes, I will most likely start Pluvicto.

well I had 6 rounds of Taxotere then the doctor put me on Xtandi. That was over 6 years ago. I also get a monthly shot of elagard and Xgeva. So far so good Take good care of your warrior

Thank you, I’ll for sure check it out. Haha, I laugh because he’s not exactly the social media/blog type. That said, I keep him updated with all your posts and he’s genuinely grateful to you all. You should have seen his response when I suggested iced mitten/booties, skull caps or wigs for chemo. We had a few hard laughs & jokes that went with it. All in good fun. No judgment to anyone who uses them. I would.

I am 24 years out from my terminal diagnosis with a PSA of 30. I also was the care companion of my wife through her death from a brain tumor. Find the best medical people you can, listen to their advice and try to follow each protocol the best you can in your circumstances. Wasting your time, trying to come up with something better than your doc is simply a waste of time and energy that should be spent enjoying any abilities you have to be with friends and be a good friend, having new experiences however close to home or in your den and living right now. Focus on living and leave the worrying and treatment to your medical crew.

U can continue with the taxane therapy till 06 cycles, if psa levels show declining trend. Usually the patient remain in remission for a short period of time after taxane therapy, the time period vary from patient to patient depending on the biology of tumor..

Once the psa level start rising, you have to look for other options. The best option looking at the clinical history would be Lu-177 psma therapy (Pluvicto).

Hey there! I notice this post is about a month old but I want to wish your husband well on his journey ahead, how is he doing thus far? And how are you? As my dad’s caregiver I’ve used this forum to get as much info as possible on this disease to help with whatever lies ahead. It’s been helpful and you’ll get an abundance of great advice here.

My dad is mCRPC, Mets throughout skeleton, no pain and minimal side effects. Once he became resistant I lost a bit of hope and am trying to gain it back again. How long has your husband been castrate resistant?
