Eclipse Trial Update - Lutetium-Lu 177

Just received lab results from my 2nd dose of Lu177, 2 weeks ago. My PSA dropped from 2.0 to 0.3. Had CT and Bone scans done, at the same time, and they show healing and no new mets.

My 3rd dose will be 5-31-23. So far my only side effects, I think, were some appetite suppression and constipation for about 4 days. I had neither of these SE's after the first dose.

Being part of this trial, I have no problem obtaining the Lu 177 from Curium, thus far.

Thanks, TA! My Docs. who are heading the Eclipse trial and a Splash trial feel pretty confident they will eventually receive approval for use of Lu 177 vs. Chemo, as SOC!

I’m also just starting Eclipse Trial in Miami and am hearing the same thing. And plan to add Provenge later just as a back up. I’m looking for a cure.

Hello,

Good news indeed! I am on the SPLASH trial although I am currently on the SOC arm. The perception of my clinical trial team is that Lutetium works very well for about one-third of the men who take it. The results are mixed for about another third and it doesn't work at all for the remaining third. If that is the case, consider yourself very fortunate.

john4803 profile image
john4803 in reply toRyderLake2

I think it depends on the trial, also. Some have sicker guys, ie. Vision. My Doc. says they have statistics on the Splash trial and will be out this year. It may or may not change the odds?

My team is reporting better results than that, I think? There again, us Eclipse fellows are healthier to start with!

That's great news. Kind of wish I hadn't had Zytiga early so I would not have been excluded from the PSMaddition trial. I hope it creates a very long and durable remission for you.

I failed Erleada after 6 months so I was scheduled for Chemo probably? My MO is tight with the "Center of Excellence" Docs at St. Louis U & recommended me for the Eclipse Trial & the rest is history!

treedown profile image
treedown in reply tojohn4803

Well if I fail Xtandi and enrollment is open I may try that option. Its clear pharma is pushing toward LU177 before chemo. If applicable at the time that's what I am hoping for as well so even if I can't get into a trial if I can hold off long enough it may become SOC in time. 🤞🤞

If you have to, if not approved here yet, you can go to Europe or Australia. Not the best thing, however. It seems Nuclear medicine is catching on & there is the Alpha particle Ac-225, which kills 2 strands of DNA vs. the 1 that Lu 177 disrupts. It is even in shorter supply at the moment, from what I understand?

That’s good news! I’m headed to London for my first Lu-177 treatment in two weeks. I hope Novartis will get their act together and it will be available in the US for the next treatments.

Best of luck!

gsun profile image
gsun in reply tojohn4803

AC-225 is a better isotope but there is a problem with the salivary glands. They get damaged, sometimes permanently. There are people working on that. There is also a combination LU/AC treatment that seems to work well.

john4803 profile image
john4803 in reply togsun

Yes, my MO said it is being worked on!

They don't want to roll out anything too quick or they won't recoup what they paid out to get the last new thing going :)

Projections are Pluvicto will be a 2 billion dollar drug for Novartis. Once the FDA approves production in NJ plant and I believe a second plant in Midwest, it should be more widely available. Frustrating that I waited for the FDA approval, did 10 sessions of docetaxal, and then suddenly it was no longer available.

john4803 profile image
john4803 in reply toprofsailor

Yeah, only a trial seems to guarantee supply!

great news John. Hoping for the same. Got dose 1 in Bad Befka Klinic. Germany late February. Went back for #2 early April and injection never arrived from provider. Trying again on the 19th. They apparently going to source from Israel. No SE from first and hope for the same this time.

john4803 profile image
john4803 in reply toFlyfisherbug

Unfortunately you almost have to be in a trial to be assured of supply?

profsailor profile image
profsailor in reply tojohn4803

I believe that is true. Trial or go to another country. Hope treatments continue to work great for you. All the best.

Pluvicto is state of art. Radioligands are SOC in 21st Century.

Are you CRPC? Metastic?

john4803 profile image
john4803 in reply toJrTOO

Not before Chemo they are not in the US. Yes, minimum requirements of the Eclipse Study are CRPC and Metastatic.

What is your Bio?

I have been on clinical for over 2 years and nothing has worked. I do my 1st scans since starting LU 177 on Thursday. My psa's were 138 when I started, we will see if this is working like we pray that it is. Have a great day brother.

john4803 profile image
john4803 in reply toSWJH

Best of Luck!

They didn't do a PSA on me until after the 2nd infusion & when they did the scans, which was a little nerve racking?

Can you share with us your Bio? Thanks!
