all over the country there are massive winter storms and bizarre ,for the season, extreme hot weather taking place. Central California is no exception …. 2 days ago we had a record wind storm attack that fell trees and damaged homes ., mine included. Sustained winds of 50 mph common ….Mammoth Ski resort logged a burst of 133 mph at its entrance . That was two days ago … then yesterday a massive wind and rain event that piled up the damage …. and …. the second wave of the massive storm hits here this evening with even more rain and wind than the first.
Anyway the point being that getting out to enjoy some family QOL time is challenging in the face of storms that might last in waves for 10 days or more …even longer to recover…. never mind it being winter, plus opportunities to actually be physically able to get out can be limited due to our disease.
So today I was able to briefly get out, between the storms, to enjoy some spring QOL time for a while …. to break the storm and cancer shut in blues. I took a couple nice calming uplifting pictures to enjoy and share with the brothers.
all of us already have enough to deal with , these storms just adding to the difficulty of getting out and doing something to take our minds off things. QOL time really helps me feel a lot better with everything.
❤️❤️❤️

That tea house is some culture …. There is a very nice one in Golden Gate Park… SF …my dearly departed mom took me there once as a a lad ! Love the bonsais ! Domo Arigato! I’m xcited because they just opened a poke Raman house in this tiny country town . We just don’t have the foods you do in Cali! Got my fingers crossed . The powder snow here is a wonder ! ❄️❄️❄️❄️☃️
Great pix, and Yay for getting out and soaking up Nature.
Were those Canadian Geese up there?
Yes, want me some Spring Bloom to brighten up the Gloom, but the Forecast says more snow til Saturday. Maybe up to 15 inches. I might be snowbound til Sunday
I almost feel sorry for you , this time has been a kicker up there. You do need the water tho …. time to fire up that humvee truck and head over to the beach … but roads prolly aren’t even cleared yet !!! You might need a flight out of there.
Yes they are Canadian Geese and several other kinda. That park is home to 1000s of once wild geese that came down the flyway , saw the others and landed .. now they live here yayahahahaya why leave when the winters are warm and people hand feed you every day. No flying back for these puppies. There are a large number of normally migrating species here that do the same thing. You just never know what kind of bird , you’ve never seen before , will walk right up looking for a handout. Some are shocking to see here. The Wild ones land to mingle with the locals and just stay. I suspect some are older and can’t easily fly back and some may have been injured at one time. They sure are messy tho ….. 😁😁😁
Yea, it's like "hey honey why the heck are we flying back to Canada, when it's warm and there's so much food down here. HONK! 😜"Snow coming down now❄️🌨️🤣
Please keep the Canadian geese, they poop 💩 all over everything here, including bike trails, sidewalks, and parking lots. Businesses here pay people with geese-chasing dogs to clear their parking lots of the geese, especially when the geese build nests near buildings in the spring and attack people trying to go in and out of the buildings.
Lol …. No kidding, seems like they dive bomb you too. I used to kayak in wetlands in the winter and flocks of those would get spooked and take off … it’d be like a horror movie yayayya yay yayaya. Need a raincoat , umbrella and giant economy, size handy wipes.
Great pics K! Some nice Redwoods in the back, and what kind of tree is blooming in the foreground? The extreme wind yesterday was playing havoc with our 80-100’ palms down here in SD— it’s amazing they don’t fall over.
I believe those are ornamental Callery pear trees. There have been a large number of trees falling and limbs breaking off … hitting houses, cars , blocking roads …everything. Some beautiful older growth heritage trees , here, have been sadly uprooted . A real loss. It’s been a record storm and it’s back and still going to go for days … . We had a new type of precipitation yesterday called graupel …that I’ve never heard of before . It’s not snow or sleet … it gooey ice globs called graupel. Weird.
ima going to get back to you and everybody SAP , I woke up today ( or didn’t ) and can’t get back to full consciousness… awareness. Seriously nodding off and can’t get brain moving. Feels like the hammer gave me a handful of Ambien last night or something. “ very “ difficult to even write this big guy … “ I’ll be back “ ( The Arnold in terminator ) …. functionally impaired right now . 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️😵💫😵💫😵💫❤️❤️❤️
I’ve never head that word before, I believe this might be the first time we’ve had it in 45 years I know of. Bizarre
Hey guy! Yah, that storm ripped the roof tiles off of our shed . 75 mph winds Tore us a new one . Now it’s snowing . Which we need in the S.W. Look out USA this storming is ripping east . Take care ! 🏜✌️
it’s been a destructive mess … lots of records broken. It’s back now, tonight and weather man says is going to get stronger for days , the center is moving down the coast towards us. We do need the rain, but this is so screwed up …yikes yayahahahaya
freaked me out before I realized that you did that …. thought I was having a disassociate episode or something yayahahahaya yayahahahaya. Change is good , fresh name fresh attitude. Kewl … yayahahahaya
all the doom and gloom that’s here all the time … it’s really rough on people. Like this disease , drags anyone down. I hear ya on that buddy. Maybe these QOL posts get people thinking about something different for a while, …. But it’s a tall order and doesn’t last long.
nooooooooooooo yayayaya besides j-o-h-n , you are one of the funny crazies that belong here trying to cheer things up. You’ve always had an uplifting funny thing to add. Loved your pictures of your desert hobby of pulling up that scrub brush, and staying in shape. Lots of great comments always followed those posts. You added a lot to the group over with your great posts.
thank you bruddha … we’re all in the same boat here , hopefully we can all lend support to each other … to help us navigate this mess. Brothers all on the same voyage , who knows better how we feel.
ok, kinda back to some consciousness yayayayayayayaya. Man, dunno what’s happening here, someone pushed my snooze button a few times.
Wow …. Snowing , I hear that …the storm has been hammering us with a vengeance since last light , but today really really heavy. House shaking so hard from wind storm , feels like mini earthquake. The heavy as heck stuff supposed to taper off by evening, but storm going on tho, until this Wednesday night. All of this headed right straight toward you. Lucky I did get out yesterday. Need a boat today. Yayahahahaya we’ve never had weather like this in 45 years I’ve been here in this town.
Poor doctor Randy up is in the location where it’s snowing like heck right now, been snowing and will keep going for hours at a minimum. He probably ‘I’ll have to buy a snow shovel and rock salt for his business , that is if any patients can even get out of the house there. His face is probably so cold he can’t make that great big smile yayayayayaya
see that bird up above the pine tree …. ??? …. It’s getting the heck out of dodge. Yayahahahaya yayahahahaya. This is one hecka storm. Dunno how you get to side step it right now and it’s STILL hammering us up here. Wonder Weather has had us in “ yellow “ solid since last night. Not going to stop until this coming Wednesday evening with another near 3” or more additional rain. This one storm had will drop almost a years worth of rain before it’s over and this is the 7th or so storm recently.
I’ve seen only two overhead at home . It was good luck! The last one I saw on high was being run off and tormented by two of our local panic of ravens . They are by the lakes in wintertime! Fishin🐟
We got about 7 inches in two storms but a lot of rain also . The lakes are full to the brim . The firefighters are happy . Living on the edge of the forest we are happy . Bring it on! Another ten years of this and maybe we will dent the 1200 yr drought . . ? Sierra snow is calis life blood . Cali can survive
Thanks for sharing your QOL pics K. They brightened my day.
One of the parks I walk at has a small Japanese garden located on an island. I always extend my walk to include a stroll through this park. There are several beautiful spots for meditation, and I have a favorite meditation bench that comes with one of my favorite sounds – a trickling stream.
Another of my favorite QOL days is to drive into Portland and go to Powell’s books in the morning. I load up with books (because I only have hundreds at home and I might run out of stuff to read), then I grab a great lunch (Portland is a wonderful foodie city), and then I love to go up to the Portland Japanese Garden in the afternoon. The garden is beautiful and also offers a panoramic view of Portland, all set off against a backdrop of Mt. Hood.
Finally, I love to visit the Byodo-In Temple in Oahu. The beauty of the temple and the setting are stunning.
Very reminiscent of Japan in a lot of ways - except for the fact that I can actually turn around in public spaces without fear of fracturing some old lady's leg
yea …that temple pic is major impressive …. Utterly beautiful. The hammer is a book freak too … she has zillions of books stored all over and 1000s on her kindle, she pretty much reads all the time too.
I love Portland and Sea-Tac both , the strong social and night vibe up there is amazing. Still a little chilly and wet for my tastes yayahahahaya. Vancouver…. World class sophistication, and with all the problems like S.F. and other pacific rim mega metropolises have everywhere. All that the world class big time. Lotta Asian investors up that way because of it.
PS - Yesterday we were snowed in and the roads were sheet ice, so we stayed in. Our QOL was to break out the Scabble board. Damn, I wish I hadn't married a brilliant woman with a masters in English. For dinner I had humble pie...
The doc Randy lives up in Tehachapi which is at 4000’ and at a unique confluence of the eastern and western Sierra mountains. He’s having sleet and snow right now and “:lots “ of it and it’s going to go on for hours … full out blizzard conditions says the weather channel. I think Cal Trans said all the pass roads are blocked as well. No getting in or out in a vehicle. Here we’ve never had anything like this in the 45 years I’ve been here in Fresno. It’s blowing everyone’s mind here too. Yayahahahaya.
So ….. here’s what you do about scrabble. Get the UNO game, the plain basic one with two decks … and make 2 of the blank cards “ swap hands “ make one a “ cancel that “ and put them in the deck. UNO is masterful fun and it kinda puts everyone on an even keel. Juice up your game by buying that cute $15 uno card shuffler to add some fun too. Once you learn the strategy tricks ( you learn them real time thru experience) … you’ll find it to be very entertaining.
Funny, small world story: Had taken Daughter and BF to Beautiful in NYC and then went to the subway with the Playbill in hand. Sat down and two ladies sat on either side of me and asked if I enjoyed it. I said that being a Baby Boomer, I knew those songs, but never knew that King wrote so many and that she started at 16. Told her that my daughter and I teared up as the King actor sang a mournful version of "One fine Day" as the hubby just said he was seeing another woman. Then it's Intermission
One lady grabbed the Playbill and paged thru and pointed out her name - Harriet Leve Executive Producer leveproductions.com/about
That IS an awesome story as Carl said. (note to self: to get even closer to the locals skip the rental car and take local transport).
Early in my marriage something happened (maybe I was going googoo, gaagaa over a Carole King concert on tv) my wife would accuse me of liking Carole King more than her lol.
how kewl , you needed an autograph on the playbill too. She couldn’t refuse that wall to wall beaming smile . If you were any more photogenic, your camera lens would explode. 😂😂😂😂😂
I had to put my rig into 4 wheel drive in order to get to a main road. Met snow plows on my way down the mountain. Amazingly, 7 miles later and a few hundred feet lower and it’s a beautiful sunny day for a walk.
at least it’s letting up and you’re getting some shine. Yayahahahaya. It’s “ still “ pouring down gully washers here. Supposed to last until this Wednesday evening but not so had. Beautiful picture , Japanese gardens are so kewl.
Cozy up. Munch on some treats. Que up some movies. Feel that cocoon effect although in Arizona maybe its not so cold that maybe you venture out in it. I look at it from the window and say by the grace of god my furnace works lol.
well it’s really different for around here , which is oft described as being “ dryer than a popcorn fhart “ yayahahahaya. 10% summer humidity a common thing.
I've never forgotten living in a small rental complex when I was about 24 years old. I was totally party/hardee. The manager from Missouri caught up with me to renew a lease. She said "Your harder to catch than a fart in a fryin pan" lol.
Hey monte... they're looking for us.... whatcha doing? I'm in the kitchen trying to fart in a frying pan. Hey j-o-h-n, Did you know that's harder than having sex with your ex-wife. Yep, I call that a memorial service............
as for Uno, that’s one of our favorite camping games. The kids can join in, and they love nothing more than reversing me or skipping me. Little jerks! Must take after their grandmother
I use it , like this morning , when I couldn’t get my mind to wake up … the hammer plays it with me to keep my brain functioning . earlier today I couldn’t get my brain in gear like I ate a handful of ambien. I think the hammer slipped a Mickey in my fin. 😂😂😂
Sorry to hear about the Hammer taking the Mick at your expense. Better check your wallet.
My head has been toast since my last Eligard injection. Since I started ADT and recognized the morning brain fog as chemically induced, I've played a simple two suit klondike on my tablet first thing in the morning. I have played it enough that I can recognize when my thinking abilities get close enough to normal that I feel like I can sustain a conversation. Sucks, but at least I know the cause and can usually wait it out. Some days I'm just a mental mess and its extremely concerning since I see it as a loss of capability. Try not to overreact, and my lovely wife is understanding and usually waits until I give the ALL CLEAR signal.
I hear ya … this stuff wears on all of us over time. We bombard ourselves with powerful cancer chemicals , we endure the stress of our life ending disease…. , no one’s just gonna shrug all that off. Just say’in 😂😂😂😂
the farmers are happy to see this massive rain event for sure. It means big profits for them this growing season. The water issues here are complex tho. The ski resorts and mountain businesses as well, although none of them can run until it stops raining. The storms have cost me money and inconvenienced me , …. personally “ I “ don’t need the rain . I like to see enough to water my yard and rinse all the AG dust out of the air.
ryte own bruddha. Considering the magnitude of the onslaught, and all the damage all over town, a few hundred dollars of damage to the pavilion that covers my medical jacuzzi isn’t a big thing.
The dam / water control management people understandably are freaking …. Prolly gonna be some down stream flooding and low lying property damage from controlled releases, but considering all in all , we kinda dodged a bullet.
yea they hit you guys right after us. Lil break today ( rained a little this morning ) it will come back 6 p.m. and be continuous thru Wednesday evening. Then a break for a while to dry out. Probably a day later for you guys. We needed the water but I e had e ouch for now. Need time for all this to soak in.
😁😁😁
Without this precip Cali was ready to blow away into a dust bowl .
