Apalutamide Assistance

My dad has stage IV low volume prostate cancer and the hospital said that they would automatically apply him for assistance for apalutimide. He's retired and on a Medicare Advantage plan.

His oncologist says most insurances don’t cover it all and they will automatically apply for assistance. Do you know how much money is too much money to qualify? My parents have about 400,000 in saving plus a house that is worth about 200,000. It’s not a lot but will cover a nursing home for my mom (who's mind is failing) if needs be in the future. Do you think they will qualify for assistance? The drug is $14000 for 120 tablets without insurance and we are nervous. So nervous.

If they make them use their own money to cover it then there won't be any money left for if my mom might need care in the future-- a huge concern of mine. Of course I would do my best to care for her but might need help with nurses, etc.

Any personal experiences or knowledge would be so helpful. Thank you.

My Medicare Advantage plan through United Health/AARP has a $280 deductible so I pay $95 a month for Aberatirone

That's a generic version?

I'm not sure Apalutamide has a generic.

It does not, wonder if your MO would switch you over. I know some countries offer generics not offered here. I get my Jenuvia generic in Mexico. Not available here. They may have it india

United treats me really good, I absolutely love it. I pay pocket change per month, plus other advantages. Abiraterone/Zytiga went from around $100 a month to about $10 with United.

United is a good plan, my broker somehow got me my plan for free I think because I am on disability, great benefits and extras

Start checking around on the internet, there a lot of different ways to save a lot of money. This is the first one that popped up when I looked.

Did he ever have abiraterone? Abiraterone is less expensive and covered by Medicare and probably has less negative side effects than apalutamide. Abiraterone when started in mCSPC offers the same survival advantage or better than chemo.

I have assistance for next year due to the high cost of chemo, it is based on income not what you have in the bank. I got pharmacy assistance last year with xtandi, got it down to 20 a month, the hospitals knew about programs that is fantastic.

Hello did does your dad have a yearly income? My dad only had Social Security it was less than 20 grand a year, but he did have money in the bank and his house is paid for he applied for a grant through the pharmaceutical company. The doctors office found it and then they paid for the medicine. If your dad makes more than 20 grand a year they may he may not qualify for assistance. I hope that helps. Tango mentions abiraterone….do you know why you father’s doctors are suggesting the much more expensive drug instead? Did he have medical issues with Abi?

If your dad makes less than about 60-65k a year or so, he can try to get covered through the PAN foundation. My dad has had his apalutamide covered through them or Johnson & Johnson (which doesn’t offer assistance anymore).

Personal experience with a $14,500 per month Nubeqa. For the past 20 months I have been on Nubeqa my Medicare plan covered the usual amount. January all but $5,000, each month after that all but $560.My state, NY, has a prescription assistance plan, EPIC, based on income. Higher income higher deductible. Reach the deductible and they cover all but $10.00. Didn't qualify the first, partial, year due to income BUT there is a program, The Assistance Fund that did help and did the exact thing.

There are many other programs like these. Check your government's & do a web search.

when I applied for the Janssen (Johnson and Johnson) discount program, they didn't ask my salary. It was at least 2 years ago so maybe I was asked if I had insurance. After getting approved the Rx was free.
