Watch what you say to the pharmacy

Did not qualify for the study due the node in the lymph gland was not big enough but the oncologist put me on generic xtandi which I would have gotten anyway but have to pay for it myself. Once on it there are other studies down the road, good news is that there is no progression on the scans. When I found out that the cost would be two grand a month I said I could not afford that so now I cannot get the first month without talking to a financial assistance specialist. I have found since with insurance it is very affordable and after paying 4 months the rest is paid by insurance. I do not think I can qualify for any financial help due to my 401k that is around two hundred thousand. The PA put the script in the wrong pharmacy, did not read the chart, why do we have to do everybody's job for them. Once this gets straighten out the refills are going to my mail order pharmacy instead of paying for parking just to pick up my meds. Has anybody else had this happen to them ? The only thing is the insurance would not pay for a PET scan that I would have gotten through the study.

Hey Muffin! I saw a stat yesterday that United Heath made $201 billion in profits last yr . They are the 19 largest company in the world right now .But they can’t buy your meds? Bs man .. What a shame .. They dropped me last yr . Blue cross blue shield picked up the Az Medicaid Medicare folks like me . Good luck in finding a way for them to pay for it all! In the us we pay the most and Dont always get the best services . It beats many 3 rd world countries but most of developed ones are better . Imho

Have your doctor contact Xtandi Support Solutions if he/she has not done so already. They can help with the cost of xtandi.

One alternative is to obtain xtandi from India, it much cheaper.

Most of the assistance is for the uninsured or under insured, but does it depend on income and your resources to help pay for it.

Did you try the Patients Access Network?

A few years ago I was quoted a price $600 for a months supply. That may have changed by now.

in reply toMagnus1964

I paid $280 for a month. The India supplier that I used was used to bargaining. I think I ended up paying about half of what they originally quoted. I'm keeping a supply for if BAT fails.

Did they throw in a drawing of Elvis with it?

in reply todhccpa

Lol! That takes me back to 2005. I was in Egypt on vacation and was serenaded by the Egyptian Elvis. I'll remember that until I die. His enthusiasm was inspiring and hilarious at the same time.

Long live The King!

No income requirements. xtandi.com/financial-support

I get Zytiga using Janssen assistance for $10 a month. Income limits either do not exist or are very high.

What you shared says no income requirements. Good info. Unfortunately for those men On Medicare, there are different rules and will be income based.

in reply toConcerned-wife

Oh, United health AARP is medicare. I thought it was commercial insurance. My mistake. The only thing I know of is goodrx.com and they don't cover Xtandi. Zytiga is about $250 a month through goodrx.

My first month was free, as there was no paperwork filled out yet. Then I got the paperwork. They may say "no income requirements" but they asked for yearly household income and when I put $80,000 per year (mainly my wife's income, I'm retired) they told me I didn't qualify. I guess I should have put down only what social security pays. They probably would have checked it out anyway. My doctor told me to stop taking it anyway as Firmagon alone was doing the job.

in reply toepfj3333

Good to know. Are you under Medicare or commercial?

I put our combined income down for the zytiga assist. Income limits must be pretty high. We have commercial insurance through my wife's employer.

Medicare with Blue Cross Plan F supplement. Medicare will cover some but Xtandi is still $1,000+ per month ($2,000 in January and then $1,000 per month until next January). Blue Cross covers none of it.

That is not a good plan, you do not have a limit of out of pocket then the plan covers 100 percent of the rest, mine does.

Mine doesn't.

No. Just household income.

in reply toMuffin2019
