If your cancer has become resistant to Casodex, get off it immediately - the cancer learns to feed on it. No one uses Casodex for untreated PCa anymore.
I'm not familiar with Casodex for untreated PCa. My experience with it is after PCa treatment.
I have been using Casodex (150 mg) for several years to suppress recurring cancer several years after a prostatectomy. Although it is not a cure, Casodex has suppressed my post surgery increasing PSA that slowly crept up to 0.15, back down to undetectable (<0.01). I have been on Casodex for the past 2 and 1/2 years, and my PSA has stayed at undetectable. My physician thinks I might be able to keep using it for at least 5 years before the cancer learns to feed on it. We monitor my PSA often so I can stop Casodex if/when my PSA starts rising.
I have not experienced ANY side effects at all, except for some soreness of nipples. Some breast growth is usually typical, but there is usually not a lot of growth for older men. Reactions to that common side effect range from no big deal all the way up to total freak out.
I hope Casodex keeps my PSA undetectable forever, as it is the only treatment for PCa that I know of that has no effect on my quality of life.
untreated=Without prostatectomy or prostate radiation.
I agree with the above poster... My first (& best MO) (Dr. Nancy Davis) put me on 150mg and it kept my PSA down to 1 or below for 6 1/2 years before it started to rise & I had to go on to something else.. Had an Orchy & also Chemo & am now on Zytiga & Prednisone.. Only side effect I had from Casodex was I developed man boobs but it wasn't painful at all.. I just don't go swimming anymore at 78 yrs old.. (might be embarrassing in a mixed group) Good Luck
No side effects for me.
I’ve been on 50mg of casodex for 3 1/2 years. PSA reduced from 65 to <.02 in 9 months. PSA has increased to <.1 over last 6 months. I also take 10mg of tamoxifen to prevent breast growth. Very little side effects. Mediterranean diet, free weights and 12,000 average steps per day/ played 200 plus rounds of golf so far this year.
