Statins aid PCa control?

Is there a specific statin(s) that are helpful with PCa? One was mentioned a while ago, but I don't recall the name. My husband has been taking Pravastatin for high cholesterol for many years, but I don't think this was what was mentioned on this site. Any info?

To say I’m not a fan of statins is an understatement. I have a personal reasons why I’ve spent a lot of time looking at these. However, that being said, from what I’ve researched there is one exception where I would consider them - the use for their anti inflammatory effects as some complementary treatment. There is the argument of using other substances for anti inflammatory effects instead of statins, which is also my view. But with this disease, anything that works towards some benefit should be considered.

Thanks for reply!

It may be atorvastatin, as per CareOncology protocol. I am with MrG, not a fan but wanting to do everything possible to reduce inflammation.

Good morning, I've been taking Metformin /Liptor since 01/ 2016.

Started ADT in 01/2015 and a month later, the 1st of 15 Taxoteres

In my case, PSA nadir hit Summer 2017, went from 840.2 to 0.1

Hard to say if the above combo got me to almost 8 years, when old data said 28% chance of 5yrs

Randy, what strength Lipitor were you on and did you start at one dose then getting higher? One more question, did you feel that the statin caused weakness in your legs?

Thank you Randy!

It's a 10mg tablet, haven't had any leg weakness, but maybe my daily hikes have offset that! Wasn't ever offered to increase my dose of Lipitor. Here is the Lipid panel from 07/22 CHOLESTEROL 132 mg/dL

<=199 mg/dL

TRIGLYCERIDE 190 mg/dL

<=149 mg/dL

Note that if triglycerides (TG) are sufficiently high, then direct LDL (if

TG>1300 mg/dL) or HDL (if TG>2000 mg/dL) measurements may not be valid.

HDL 67 mg/dL

>=40 mg/dL

LDL CALCULATED 35 mg/dL

<=99 mg/dL

CHOLESTEROL/HIGH DENSITY LIPOPROTEIN 2.0

<=3.9

See LabNet for more information.

CHOLESTEROL, NON-HDL 65 mg/dL

mg/dL

NonHDL targets are 30 mg/dL higher than LDL targets.

Thank you Randy, I will find my husbands panel and do some comparing to yours. We have a big night tonight here....2nd playoff game for the Philies, although I don't think I can stay up until 1 am watching baseball, I'm way too old!

Cool, all the #s are cool, cept for Triglycerides, prolly cuz I still have beers :-)

Oh yikes about staying up that late, but maybe Philly will be up by so much that you'd be okay missing the end !

My integrative MD after testing told me lovastatin has the best results in a dish so who knows but I need to take a statin anyway so might as well take the one that worked in a petri dish

in reply to Peppertree602

Pepper, the best results to do what? I don't quite get the dish thing....sorry!

Thanks. Will discuss with doc whether hubs should switch from Pravastatin that he's been taking for many years to some other statin.
