I had just asked if anyone had a recommendation for a hospital/surgeon in the Huntington Beach area; however, my buddy who lives in San Jose just offered to let me stay with him. Any recommendations in the SF area would be much appreciated.
If any of you have had this device installed, are you 100% happy with the results?

Someone recommended that I try to find a doctor that does 'at least' 35 AUS implants/year. I don't know I would confirm that if I found a doctor who told me that he/she does that many?
I heard a similar recommendation to ronronHU's comment re finding a specialist that does X? number of the AUS implants per year offered in a podcast by Patrick Lumbroso in either podcast #55 or podcast #61 on thepenisproject.org. I just listened to the podcasts last week or I'd not have remembered where I heard a number. UCSF?

Thank you Tango for these most informative articles. Unfortunately they have confused me to some degree since it appears that the 'sling' has become a popular choice for many incontinent men. I am somewhat of a tE2 guru; however, my knowledge of incontinence devices is pretty much limited to AUS implants. I wonder if any of our comrades could shed a bit more light on the 'sling vs the AUS' implants? There is lots of info in these articles that now have me in a quandary? I thought that the sling was quite inferior to the AUS implants.

By advice, based on personal experience, is to stay away from the sling. The surgeons don’t tell you that you lose an inch or so of penis length. And in my case, the sling did not improve my incontinence very much. Unfortunately, tissue in growth prevents removal. Because it was clear the sling film, I had an AUS implanted. It solved the incontinence problem. My only complaint is that when I sit down normal position I compress the cuff and that results in leaking. Still, it’s a whole lot better than going through 10 to 12 depends per day.
I have an AUS and it transformed my life allowing me to continue with strenuous sports and long haul flights with no anxiety.
I strongly recommend finding a Uro specialist who has done many and equally is paranoid about infection risk. There are subtleties to the installation that can improve the longer term outcomes.

I have an AUS and am totally happy with it. Before I was wearing depends with a pad and had to change up to 8 times a day. Now I am dry as a bone. My surgery was done by Dr. Neils Johnsen at Vanderbilt Medical Center. He does like 60 of these a year. I strongly recommend getting it done, but like our other brothers stated get someone that is very experienced. Good luck my friend.
I had severe incontinence after RP and went through 6-8 pads a day. The AUS changed my life. Now on occasion I use only one of Tena’s thinnest pads if I’m out and about all day. Do find a surgeon who specializes in the procedure. Mine at MSK underscored this on his website and I traveled the 2 hrs to have him do it (and stayed in the area for an extra couple of days after the procedure, just in case) rather than rely on a competent generalist urological surgeon near me at a very good hospital who said that she did it “regularly.”
100% happy. AUS surgery was 8 1/2 years ago. Dr. said he had not had much success with the sling, but was confident the AUS would work. It was life changing!
We’ve been over this ronron! However, ask as much as you like about it, personally I’ll tell you the same thing-100% happy with it.
The sling is not a good solution for heavy incontinence, there is pretty much a consensus on this.
I like the talk about finding a surgeon who’s done a lot of a particular surgery, but it leaves me wondering what types of surgery would inexperience be more acceptable lol.
I trusted the referral of my urologist and have no regrets whatsoever. Just get the best care you can find.
Hey don’t apologize! This is a big deal, as you know. The work of a knucklehead urologic surgeon could be disastrous obviously.
See if you can get some actual satisfaction rates, testimonials etc. If that isn’t available then yes at least get someone who’s done a lot of them.
If I didn’t mention it before, I found the AUS surgery to be analogous to hip replacement. Fast, complete recovery, ideal results, each one I wished I had done sooner. Best to you!
