Metastatic Prostate cancer for 10 months. On Lupron, Abiraterone and Prednisone. My Liver enzymes are starting to rise. Anyone else have this reaction and how was it handled?

Same thing happened to me in month 7. Per manufacturer, you can have AST & ALT numbers go 5 times higher than normal. So stay the course until you get close. When I got close, my MO had me stop taking Zytiga until my numbers returned to normal. That was 7 weeks. Then I started on a half dose(500mg). My ALT & AST numbers remained good and I bumped up to 750mg. Have stayed there for last 4 years all the time with PSA <0.01. Hope you have my luck.

Thanks Go Bucks. My MO has me off Zytiga for 10 days then blood test to see if it's the cause. I feel better about the long term prognosis.

Sometimes abiraterone causes liver enzymes to be elevated. Often just backing off the dose for a while (staying on prednisone) will allow the liver to accommodate. You can then raise it back up.

Mine went up to just above normal limits. We just stayed the course and they both went back down within a few months.

More than 3 years ago, when I was first prescribed Zytiga, my liver enzymes numbers also went up. I was prescribed Heptral for about 6 months. The numbers returned to normal and I have stopped taking Heptral since. Hope it works for you.
