Tena Pads - Gone. Thank you for all the responses.
Congratulations, keep us informed on your success with the AMS 800.
May I ask a question? How do you get along with your new device?
So far so good. Recovery is all you read about. A good 4-6 weeks. No swimming, heavy lifting etc. The soreness takes a while to go away but now I’m comfortable and so far so good. I was using 8-10 pads per day!
My husband had an AUS implanted in October 2019. It's been life-changing in a good way. No limits to activity, no pain. A little messy in the bathroom as he needs both hands to activate his device, but we can both live with that.
The surgery itself was pretty simple, at least for him. The two weeks of the catheter were a nightmare - extremely painful. Once the cath was removed it was smooth sailing. Honestly the hardest part was waiting another 4 weeks for the device to be activated. He went from 8ish full Depends daily to one thin pad daily as a precaution.
In spite of how painful the cath was, if he needs to have his current AUS replace, he'll do it in a heartbeat.
Thank you brother for keeping your brothers on the group In mind. It’s a nice humanitarian act. a big hug out to you for thinking of the other guys too.
❤️❤️❤️
i had mine fitted in 2014 best thing i had done still working i use i small pad a day just for slight mishap s . you have to learn to take things a bit easier no heavy lifting and no riding bicycles as it can start it off . i have had a problem with passing blood they say its the cuff around the urinary pipe but the have recently changed that the new ones are far better .
Welcome to the club Johnson411. I had an AUS implant at VA in Spring 2018. Within 2 months of activation, it failed and had to be removed.Dr Petrou at Mayo, Jacksonville, implanted another one in December of that year and I have been good to go (literally) ever since.
Incredible freedom. I was an 8-10 pads a day guy also.
Glad for your success with the AMS800. If I had known about it 15 years ago I would probably have had it done; but not now at 87. Only days are a problem not nights. A real nuisance, but I have survived having tried many brands and underpants over them.
Nice to have a good working valve in your Johnson, Johnson. Congratulations
