The following articles are written back 15 years ago, suggesting that this natural component in beer from hops has beneficial effect on prostate cancer, as well as several other cancer types. Obviously nothing much has come of the supplement but I thought it looked interesting. It seems to cause apoptosis in vitro. It seems to be able to fight many kinds of cancer as well as some kind of anti-aging and anti-dimentia or brainsaver. I found that many of these xanthahumol supplements can be purchased from online sources at reasonable costs. I am trying one, which combines the xanthahumol with tumeric and black pepper and other things. After a couple of days I seem to have some kind of diareaha side effect and I try putting the powder into different foods but I have to say it really does not taste very good. Of course one could simply swallow the capsule rather than put it in food. I tried it in coffee. It adds a yucky taste. I also tried it with other spices on fried potatoes with onions and garlic. Again, poor taste. Also I tried it in pasta sauce with spaghetti, which was also not very good taste but more acceptable. I just wanted to post this for people's education and I welcome any reactions.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-tumorigenic effects of xanthohumol (XN), the major prenylflavonoid in hops, on prostate cancer and benign prostate hyperplasia.
It was evidenced for the first time that this family of prenylated flavonoids from hops effectively inhibits proliferation of prostate cancer cells in vitro.

Maybe try it in a nice hoppy IPA? (Joke) 🤣PC cell line in vitro (lab culture) are fussy and delicate. Just about anything you add to them can kill them at some concentration. Means very little. Probably some grad student wanting to get his PhD thesis approved.
Paul, I don't know whether to laugh, or cry. Much has been written lately of RCT’s not meaning much, unless they are double blind, peer reviewed with a large number of patients on both sides. I’ll stick with a Beer now and then. “It all works, but nothing works well”. Mike
Paul, I have no idea what an IPA is (In Person Analysis?) but I'll agree that without an in vivo test there isn't much "there" there. Hence, what I am doing is an in vivo experiment, with me as the "vivo". Unfortunately, I have no way to gauge whether the Xanthohumol, XN, actually is killing prostate cancer cells in my body. My PSA is <0.1 so I cannot use a PSA test to answer the question. I have a couple of sore spots which I suspect are metastasis, and undoubtedly, they have not gone away, although I do treat them with heat occasionally when they flare up, which probasbly helps with Lupron to keep them down. So after about a week on the XN I am tempted to conclude that XN once a day is not doing much, and I suspect it requires much more consumption for success, like four times per day rather than one. But the awful taste of the stuff backs me off of that. I probably will end my experiment soon. I have had better success with lycopenes.
