Anyone experienced this?

Diagnosed almost 4 years ago, I have had radiation to several mets, as well as my prostate 3 years ago. I took Zytiga then Xtandi for a total of 3 years. About 7 months ago my PSMA PET scan showed 6 spots, 3 were treated with radiation followed by Provenge. I went vegan (my choice) after diagnosis, so here is my question....6 months ago while having radiation to my hip/femur and C1 right behind my ear, literally overnight my appetite turned and nothing seemed appetizing. The only thing I can assume is the radiation was near enough to the base of my tongue that it affected my taste buds. My local oncologist does not think the radiation caused this, but my Dr. at Duke thinks it is from the radiation. So for the last 6 months I have had a sour taste in my mouth and certain foods make it worse. I have since been eating non vegan things just to get calories. Has this happened to anyone else? and any advice? Even brushing my teeth sours my mouth.

Just a thought? Are you sure that you have not had covid? These are exactly the type of taste problems that both my wife and I have suffered for over a year now since we had covid. May be a complete red herring (sorry that would taste awful as well!) but you never know. I have advanced PC with mets in ribs, pelvis and skull and will need radiation at some point, so I will prepare myself if taste goes.

At least I never lost taste for chocolate, so all is not lost.

I don't think that is it though that is a good suggestion. I just got COVID for the first time last week and there has been no change to my taste buds. Unless I got COVID with no symptoms, I really think it is from the radiation. Otherwise the radiation was not bad at all. Best of luck to you!

Yes, I had radiation for thyroid cancer years ago. Lost just about all my taste. I use to tell people it is like when you burn your tongue on hot pizza. You know you are eating stuff, but the taste sucks. It took years for it to go away. Hope your improves.
