Hi
I'm starting my 4th week of radiation and I'm experiencing a lot of diarrhea, Bloody diarrhea.
how common is the bloody diarrhea
It happens. It is usually transient. If there is a lot of blood or if it is tarry, tell your RO.
I've had 6 weeks of radiation therapy, diarrhea did occur, although not chronically extended, subsided in a few weeks.
Did get an upside of urinating frequency, it subsided in 6 weeks. After some discussion with my Dana-Farber radiation team, the side-effects are greatly determined with targeted area.
For me, the urinary sphincter area got some radiation targeting, so some muscle weakening occurred.
Ccommon," whatever that means.
I had a lot of diarrhea the fourth week but not bloody. Instant mashed potatoes seemed help but that is just anecdotal. Make sure to let your RO know.
Greetings Andy,
Would you please be kind enough to tell us your bio. Age? Location? When Treatment(s)? Treatment center(s)? Scores Psa/Gleason? Medications? Doctor's name(s)?

Hi. I'm 65in Phoenix AZ
Started Radiation May 3rd (daily M-F for 9 weeks)
Having treatments at Palo Verde Cancer Center in Scottsdale AZ
Meds are - Casodex & Lupron
Urologist is Daitch and RO is Wharton
Forgot - Got a PSA at 13.5 in March 2022 but original cancer diagnosis came in May of 2016. at that time PSA / Gleason was 4.7 / 4-3In April PSA is 27 with Gleason of 10
Had diarrhea also after about a week. Went on low fiber diet (less than 10g per day- I call it the white death diet since mostly white stuff) and went away after about another week. Before I was on high fiber, plant based and wish they would have told me that does not play well with radiation. Also have liquid Imodium AD handy as it works quickly, especially on drives to and from treatment.
