I'm one of those who got late onset diarrhea and lots of weight loss on metformin. I seem to still have it with the XR version. I'm very distressed at the thought of giving up on it and saw a reference to taking a GLP-1 drug to counteract the diarrhea. healthline.com/health-news/...
Anyone have experience with something that helps increase tolerance, either GLP-1 or something else, maybe specific foods??

Damaging your constitution with diarrhea, weight loss, and unnecessary drugs will cause death sooner. No possible benefit from metformin ( which is minuscule if at all) is worth it.
Diarrhea is a common side effect with metformin--usually within the first 2 weeks or so, but can last... you might try taking pepto-bismol before meals or loperamide 2 mg....watch you don't end up with the opposite problem--constipation...the other thing may be to add Metamucil to give bulk to your stools.. Beyond that, if the diarrhea persists, then I'd let it go...the risk of dehydration and electrolyte imbalance isn't worth it---don't want to damage your kidneys...
You must have been a pharmacist... If you answer this question the way I think you will then I'll be sure you were a pharmacist. Question: In the old days when you were going to make love to your wife and she asked you if you were ready? Did you reply "I'll be ready in twenty minutes".... See I knew it... I may be dumb but I'm not stupid.
No...try again...you just want me to be a Pharmacist so you can get some free samples....LOL... Do you remember your first grade primer.??..
See Alice...See Alice run. ...See Alice run and get some Cialis and if John has an erection lasting longer than 4 hours he will need to see a Doctor... Have a good evening and try to last only 3 hours and 59 minutes...
I tried metformin for 4 months --stopped due to diarrhea--no change to PSA or blood sugar--my GP is a type 2 diabetic and says once diarrhea starts with metformin it will continue.
You might also go to LifeExtension's site and read about AMPK, a supplement that has similar effect. If you are a member of LE you will be able to speak with one of their health advisors, a doctor or a doctor of naturopathy to discuss which to use, dosage and if AMPK and berberine can be used together.
This is a late response. I hope it will be helpful.
