Fourth covid vax recommended

Looks like NCCN is recommending additional booster for solid tumour cancer patients. Perhaps those better informed can clarify?

When a fourth shot became available (Moderna), I asked my Oncologist, who said don't hesitate. Got that shot about two weeks ago and feel fine. BTW, I wear a mask whenever I am among people, just because it seems like a sensible practice.

Thank you. Yes sensible. You obviously care not only about yourself but humankind in general so that you don't asymptomatically spread covid to others. That's how I lost two dear friends to covid. Asymptomatic spread.

Its nice to see humility some humbleness in contrast to selfish self righteousness.

frien just had a week of misery after very close contact with an asymptomatic friend...then my friend , while asymptomatic, passed it to his son!! NO masks!!!!

Hello, If you have metastatic prostate cancer your immune system is compromised. If you are a senior (over 75), you are even more at risk. Get the booster shot. I am 76 and have had three Pfizers and the last one was Moderna.

Sensible. I have had my second booster. 2 AstraZ and both boosters Pfizer. Also flu vaccine. We need to cover ourselves as much as we can. We still wear masks when we go out even though they are nor compulsory here in South Australia. Look after yourselves as much as possible with this dreadful disease.

For the NCCN text (as of 4/27):

nccn.org/docs/default-sourc...

I had the 2nd booster, based on the CDC rationale (my 4th Moderna shot):

"The CDC recommends a second booster with an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine for all adults 50 years and older.

This recommendation for a second booster (fourth vaccine dose) was based on recent waves of the Omicron variants and data from Israel showing a reduction in rates of SARS-CoV-2 and severe COVID-19 after the second booster was administered to persons 60 years and older.58-59 An mRNA COVID-19 vaccines preferred as the first booster, while the second booster must be an mRNA vaccine. The NCCN Committee supports the recommendation for a second booster based on age." (from the above text)

"... the NCCN Committee endorses the CDC guidelines for a second booster for patients with cancer. Further, we recommend a second booster for all patients with hematologic malignancies regardless of whether they are on active therapy. The same advice applies to patients who received stem cell transplantation or engineered cellular therapy within the past 2 years or who are receiving immunosuppressive agents. Although

patients with solid tumors are more likely to mount immune responses to vaccination, we recommend a second booster for patients who received cancer therapy within 1 year of the initial vaccine administration.

"For patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI), the data show that mRNA COVID-19 vaccines are safe60. Further, the committee considered the risk of severe COVID-19 (including cardiac complications) to be greater than the potential risk of a fifth vaccine dose, and therefore recommends the second booster for these patients."

Well said. I myself received my second booster, 4th dose, on the advice of my husband’s oncologist, before it was even approved for 50+. My husband’s response to the vaccine would be possibly blunted due to his low counts on chemo, so he received Evusheld and will receive the second booster as soon as chemo is finished. Of course we wear masks in public, at work, and avoid crowds. Our oncologists have recommended that it is ok to dine with friends but only if they are vaxxed and boosted.

There is really no room here for “opinion” as facts are facts. We believe in evidence based medicine. We believe in risk mitigation.

Thank you for the links to the guidelines.

Terminal cancer is a tough place to be. Incredible advances being made. We must retain hope and some trust in medical science. Strength, spirit and love….

No room for opinions,? Of coarse it's better to have a one way conversation, sounds like government.

I got the booster and used a mask to be safe and will get the fourth shot if recommended.

HiI understand the different opinions about vaccines. However if mRNA tech comes with an apca vaccine or treatment I would seriously consider.

Cheers

Wow, what a lot of comments. Maybe it’s the Lupron or the inoperable prostate cancer, but I got my 4th full jab last month. I’ll never figure out the mask controversy, I was a surgical tech for 41 years. I would not go out in public without my pants on or without my N95 over my face!

Good for you Nalakrats, you are a brave man, especially on this site! Lol, with every post, I love you more and more😍

I’m getting my 5th shot in a couple of weeks when I am eligible. I got the first two, then the third full dose when it was available for cancer patients. That was followed by the booster. I’ll be eligible for the next booster in a couple of weeks. I’m not gonna let a case of Covid get in the way of seeing family, travel plans, doctors visits etc. My wife closely tracks studies coming out of Israel, they seem to really have their shit together compared to US and the current vaccines definitely wane over time. I’ll get my shots and continue to enjoy my life.

Excellent. I remain astounded that there has not been a campaign to increase Vitamin D by supplementing.
