Pomegranate ever recommended??

I've noted that Pomegranate ( in capsule form and the juice) has been the subject of a couple of Phase II studies with positive results in slowing PSADT... Have not read the original studies. Wondering if any out there have had pomegranate recommended as ancillary tx by MO??

Unfortunately, it failed to demonstrate a benefit in a phase 3 study.

Not exactly plain pomegranate but worth googling POMI-T which combines pomegranate, green tea, turmeric and broccoli. They did a study not to clinical standards that suggested it may reduce PSADT for some people. Developed by an Onco based in Cambridge. I take it but not recommended by my Onco but they know I take it

Pomegranate is a very healthy drink, but I am not sure I would correlate any direct benefit to Pca. It would benefit general health which is always good when fighting any disease.

As much as I keep hoping it does not appear that natural alternatives to ADT are anywhere near on the horizon.... but some pharmaceutical products do appear to hold some promise ( Metformin, Celebrex etc).... still ADT remains the standard for all it's drawbacks..

Agreed - turmeric / curcumin (of the highest bio-available grade) kicks POMI ass.

Pomi is good (I take some for overall benefit) but it isn't worth emptying the bank acc't for it.

What do you consider the highest Bio Available grade and where are you getting it..... BCM95?? sticks in my mind for some reason.... or some other 3 letters : )..... I'd like to get hold of really good Curcumin as my kidneys can't tolerate NSAIDS and I have bad arthritis...

We have at least one thing in common - arthritis (osteo). Quality curcummin is one of the best anti-inflammation agents nature provides - so I have been using it for at least 30 years.

In that time I wasted a lot of money using inferior products, that still helped me manage my 'disease' / inflammation. Unfortunately, a lot of companies jumped on the bandwagon and continue to cash in on inferior products. The uninformed public rewards these 'crooks'. There is more than one type of commercial product available.

Therefore, I'll establish 2 key things to look for.

1) The work LONGA must appear in the product description.

2) Dosage should be maximized (at least the equivalent 'extracted' amount of more that a gram (1000 mg = 1 gm.) and highly bio-available.

From part 2) - any product can pretend to be more bio-available, but that claim will

be rendered as inaccurate quickly when compared to the quality stuff.

Some companies add black pepper or simply claim it is the good stuff, to which I yell B.S !! Turmeric extracts, naturally speaking, are not very bio-available

Read the labels. Expect to pay MORE for the good stuff. I know there are some good brands out there, so do some homework.

The one I use is called Curcummatrix - from 'Cyto-Matrix'.

I take it once a day - 4 at a time - like a knockout punch (recommend by by Naturo).

It s a Canadian product (see internet - not on store shelves) , but I'm sure you could find something similar in the USA.

Note that the strength is a 60:1 rhyzome extraction which is 42 mg / equal to 2,520 mg each.

In terms of PROOF of how good it can be, I had about $5,000 $ worth of oncology blood work done that showed that 'turmeric' / curcummin was effective in assisting apoptosis in my particular cancer type, with a scale rating of greater than 30% (out of a perfect score of 100%).

I'll take 30 over 'zero' and some clinical trials have shown some benefit.

Overall, curcummin has OTHER properties that should be considered when looking for good natural supplements for the human organism.

I hope this helps answer your question(s) ....

After giving away some lower quality Curcumin I am now taking “Research Verified Turmeric Curcumin”. It seems to meet your criteria.

Is this the NAME of the product?? Do you buy it in the USA?? Mail order?? What makes it research verified. If you have the opportunity to provide more info on this product it would be appreciated... thanks

I did review all of these studies and decided to initiate an anti-oxidant/anti-inflammatory regiment. Mine includes pomegranate whole-fruit extract capsule 1 Gm; Green tea extract capsule (Gaia); Turmeric powder capsule w/ pepper (Gaia); and the prescription anti-inflammatory celecoxib (400 mg/day). My PSA-Doubling time went from 2.5 months to 18 months when I instituted this. After two years it accelerated again to PSADT of 6 months. But I remain on these while now also on ADT. Disclosure: this is an anecdotal "trial of one".

Wonder if it was having an effect even for a short period of time or was merely coincidence?? Sorry things swung in the wrong direction but, on the plus side, if you are not overly sensitive to NSAIDS don't know that this regime can do anything but help.

You can study the information ralated to POMI-T of life extension to get a better knowledge as to prostate issues.

Unfortunately Life Extension is very limited in their ability to make claims or recommendations re: their products.... the FDA have been giving them trouble for decades ( I was a member back when they were starting out and they have been raided a few times).... On the plus side... I do think they tend to offer some of the better products even IF their prices are high...
