Why would onocoligist want to use lupron with known cardio side effects vs testcle removal. I'm now having cardio problems and was never given removal as a choice. I was 78 but surgery would have been easier than lupron side effects.

Lupron vs testicle
So doc didn't give you the choice, as I understand. That's terrible. You've already been through hell (I read your cancer story), and now this. However, there are some ways to diminish the side effects, I think. Some anti-depressants help and some guys use low-dose estradiol. Check with your doctor. You may be able to get some relief. Best of luck to you!
Hello, The reason that was given to me was an orchiectomy (testicle removal) was not as effective as the newer ADT drugs in removing testosterone. The adrenal glands also produce testosterone and an orchiectomy cannot stop their production. My urologist at the time of my diagnosis nine years ago, indicated 95 % of his patients opted for ADT (Lupron type drugs) and only 5% for an orchiectomy. That swayed me! Touch wood, the side effects of Zoladex (goserelin acetate) have been minimal. Hope that helps.
My Dr also didn't mention the Orchiectomy. After 2 lupron shots my testicles were the size of jelly beans and I was told Lupron for Life. I chose surgical removal instead of 3rd shot. After a non nerve sparing prostatectomy, I had no feeling or control down stream from my bladder., so no need to keep them. Still today only a very few guys in the US choose the surgery and those that do often get fake balls installed. Why bother. If you go to the gym and shower there, it would open the door for you to tell others to look out for this damn disease.
I don't know how many oncologists you have in your area, but if yours doesn't consider your wishes in his treatment, it may be time to switch doctors. I know some doctors don't want to consider orchiectomy, and want to use medical castration instead. I had a urologist that wanted to run the show and now I have another urologist. It is your life.
I think it as simple as western med pushing drugs for life for big pharma and them lobbying Congress to do so ! No money in an orch . I did it at 56 . No mo Shots!
ADT injections are revenue for the urologist and his practice. Sounds a tad cynical but there you go! Like any man, or at least any man not dealing with prostate cancer, the idea of an orchiectomy isn't appealing and maybe he doesn't like performing the operation? I'm speculating of course.
To: Joecarver,
With a UserId like yours you would have been a natural to carve them out.
Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

Maybe I'm carving the wrong thing.
