Why do those who get pc ...that have ... - Advanced Prostate...
Why do those who get pc ...that have large audiences.....keep silent
I am not familiar with him but read his RS interview. I like what he said about not talking about became more of a burden than talking about it. I couldn't talk about it out loud for a few months, then could talk about it and then got tired of talking about it. I don't get the impression people around me, want me to talk about it so thats why I come here. Oh and I have a f__k cancer cycling cap. It says that on one side, ride hard (meant to be funny because it was the only hard I could get) on the other and the serenity prayer on the visor. It summed up how my emotions bounced around those first few months and what kept me sane.
I went an entire year an only told my wife and two lady friends, they made me start telling people as what I was doing was in their opinion unhealthy. Strangely, my male friends mostly don't want to hear about it but my female friends have embraced me offering my wife and I help if needed and am bedridden. For me Women are making the difference for me. They too were shirts that say F)$& Cancer. They are now getting ribbon tattoos on their feet in the colors of bone and prostate cancer.
Hiding it gives it power over us. Some think that others don't want to hear about it. Well, so what? Talk anyway. Be that tiresome, annoying guy who talks about unpleasant things. Life is full of unpleasant things (and pleasant things too). That's what it means to be human. Those who only face the world as they would like it to be are living an inauthentic life and a diminished existence.
Just yesterday, a really good article with Dave Alvin was published in Rolling Stone rollingstone.com/music/musi... ( sounds like he's had a rough time of it)
I often wonder the same for pancreatic cancer, which took my mom away. This is a real beast of a cancer, less than 20% survival 1 year out of diagnosis and 5 year survival around 5%. There is very little awareness of symptoms. With pancreatic cancer most are too sick to spread awareness, raise funds for research etc. But their loved ones could and in opinion should celebrate their memory by raising awareness.
I’ll get my knowledge from any source with experience. Don’t care if famous or a Hermit (yes even Hermans). When we are desperate for data. If I see someone famous on the News with info, I look into it. I guess there are people out there not paying attention unless someone famous reminds them to do some research. Hard for me to understand as here on HU, we are all giant sharing of data machines. Rock on,
Mike
